I don't think that they make skinnies in 16s. You'll be able to fit a 15x3.5 with a 5/16" spacer with no caliper grinding.

They only make skinnies in 15s. After I got new pads up front I had to grind the calipers a little on the outside edge. I also used a spacer...See Little G's post. I think my tire size was 165x??x15

The size is 165R15, there is no sidewall number since it's metric or something like that.

I hear you can get them at a sears or any tire place, the size should be similar for an old school VW Bug size.

I have two sets of skinnies that I use, the Centerline Convo Pros are 15x4, don't need a spacer and use a shorter lug nut, the Weld Pro Stars are 15x3.5 and use a spacer with the longer lug nuts.
Tires on both are the older VW Beetle 165x15 radials (one set from Sears, the other from Pep Boys I think) as mentioned above.
Neither one required any grinding on my car.

Pep Boys is the best place to get 165's ...I went to every place in my area looking for those tires and half the guys gave me a look as if I was stupid. I walked into Pep Boys told 'em the size and the guy goes "These tires aint goin on a Volkswagen are they?"
