need to make website, how?

ok i know the title is pretty vauge, but heres what i am lookign to do. I'd like to have a website showing all the parts i have for sale, along with showing pics, description, and pricing. As of right now i dont want it to be an online store. I still want the people to contact me directly first. I'd like a main page with the main categories, ie 3rd gen interior, exterior, drivetrain, chassis, 4th gen interior, exterior, drivetrain, chassis. Then once you click on the section you want, it would have another page come up listing the parts with a thumbnail pic, part name, and price. Then youd get the full info and fullsize pic once you click on the part link. I was going to list everything on ebay, but im fed up with them and id rather not waste my tiem with them.

I obviously know i'd need to get a domain name and somewhere to host the site. Any good ideas. This is where i have no clue. Also the actual setup/programming of the page would be new to me. I can get by with basic HTML but thats it. Are there any template type things out there?

Once i have the site up, then i'll become a site sponsor here, cuz then i'll be more organized. I appreciate any info or advice. And to give a rough idea of the number of parts, it will be in the hundreds. from door lock bezels, to bumpers, to engines.

theres a few "visual" designers out there, namely dreamweaver, im sure one of the (few) computer geeks on here has a copy of it. with dreamweaver you can do all of that good stuff easily, then all you have to do is upload the pages to the server

well thats not very unrelated, lol, i still have no idea of a site name. Ive thought of a few but didnt like any of them really. I'm not that concerned with people finding the site or it comign up in searches, itd be more of a word-of-mouth type site. or for members here to easily be able to check and see if i have what i need.

i know when i was looking for something for me godaddy as well as the other sites i looked into all offered hosting packages for companies that wanted to sell products...they gave you a basic outline for you & you just fill in the blanks basically.

first thing you do is hire an art and design expert like me (you can tell i am an expert by my 64 color crayon box). then i will over charge you to waste my afternoon doodling on a note pad, this is the "concept" phase.
then we take the "concept" and esplain it to the interweb full brite colorz and dancing panda bears and cool **** like that.
then the interweb takes it and you get visited by experts with 500hp turbo-=nawz powered VW's that will kick your ass.
then you will try to be cool and tell them to shut up and they will call you a noob cause you weren't cool enough to buy the rain collector super bling pimptastic upswept muffler tips with the pressed in kenudler bearings.
then your little corner of the interweb will be viewed on much the same level as the crackroach. this is a sign that you are out of date(this happens every few weeks on teh interweb)
that means it is time to call me, the expert, again so that we may discuss my newly revised fees that will cost you more money for the next super fantastically amazing "concept"

Your gonna need to know how to code HTML if ur gonna do the site yourself, and what Tim explained which is art. Coding a main site will waste a few days of your life. After you get the base site down, then updating it shouldnt take long. Godaddy.com is where you get your domain name from. Then you need to look into hosting. The package chosen should be roughly guessed as to how much traffic you will get in and out of your site, cuz bandwidth is key. If you run outta bandwidth, then your ****ed for the rest of the month. If you need a few pointers here and there, I'll be glad to help. Im sure Tim & Justin will help out as well.

*EDIT* Its been a LOOONG time since I've fiddled with Macromedia Flash, which is an animated website. I would offer to help ya out, but Im gonna be busy for the next few weeks.

there's a handful of us who program using dreamweaver. i'd offer to set it up for you, but i can't afford to do anything for free now cause i = broke. its not a hard program to use, but setting up individual pages WILL be a PITA. i'm sure there are some preset wizards out there that would do it quicker than it would be indivudually.

it doesnt take that long to figure out how to use dreamweaver. once you get the general format and the whole site together, updating will be a breeze.

You can make a Flash website, trust me.

GoDaddy is a good host company...that's who I use. And you'd be amazed at the webpages you can make using Microsoft Front Page. If you can use MS Word then you can use Front Page. I did the entire RPM site with it.

Frontpage is easy, but it makes bloated sites.

I would just code it in notepad - nothing fancy needed for HTML work. I usually use notepad or Homesite for simple stuff....

If you aren't looking for this to be anything fancy, a simple HTML table is your best bet.

I know lots of non-geeky people that can code in HTML just fine. I would say it takes a true geek to code JavaScript or C++ in Notepad....

I code all day at work,(what can I say I am a Code Monkey) and its just joys of fun lol! My favorite/most hated things in code are switching languages all day.
