ebay predicament (long story, need advice)

now as many of you know, i have been trying to sell a set of wheels for a while now. i bought them on ebay in november and soon concluded that i didn't like them and wanted to sell them and go for something new. unfortunately, i got a lot of compliments on them, but no one wanted to buy them. now granted, these wheels are still boxed up and have never seen tires before. one wheel was opened for the ebay picture that i bought it from. now, since i had no luck i put them on ebay. didn't sell on ebay either. but shortly after, i got a email from a guy who wanted to buy them. this guy threw 21 questions at me but there was one i was unable to answer off the top of my head. so i referred to the box just now and noticed something strange, the bolt pattern was incorrect. the bolt pattern was metric (bmw pattern) as opposed to standard which our cars take. the bmw pattern will bolt on the car but will be hard to center. now, i looked on my paypal and the ebay listing is still archived. its been 4 and a half months, should i still file a complaint through ebay or should i take it up with the company i bought it from directly? i'm glad i didn't sell them before noticing it was incorrect cause that would have just made it more difficult to rectify the problem. and this guy who is emailing me is being annoying cause he really wants to buy them ASAP (ironic huh?) what do ya'll think?

I think you may be SOL, unless the company is really cool about it and honors it. I filed a complaint with ebay 1 day after the grace period and I was on my own...the person I bought the stuff off of never returned emails, and just scammed my parents out of the item...

Its just like this... you buy a solar powered clothesdryer .... for say $500 ... and they send you a rope and clothespins Or the good ol' 200 piece fishing tackle box set for $80, and you get a package of 200 hooks I say be a nice guy and go through the company first... explain and if they ARE nice they will accept the return. I dunno the grace period ebay has, but good luck.

Jake, just so you know, the difference in bolt pattern is negligible. The BMW wheels are only .65 MM off the GM bolt pattern. There are lots of guys over on www.pro-touring.com running Bimmer wheels with no problems.

they normally sell bmw wheels as fbody wheels because the difference is so small.... ruff racing wheels are the same thing

i've run bmw wheels on my car before and it is a disaster. the stress it places on the studs can cause them to break. not only that, but since our cars are hub centric, a wheel not designed for our car will be off-centered and cause unnecessary vibrations. its a pain in the neck and i don't have the heart to subject someone else to that. this guy falsley advertised these wheels and i would like him to refund me my money. i don't mind taking a financial hit on them, i payed high for them. i do mind not being able to resell them now that i found out they are incorrect.

ebays grace period is 90 days. after that your sol. i sell on there all the time. and actually had a ebay store. the best you can do is contact the seller you bought it from. and see if he works it out with you. also if you still have access to the auction. you may print it. and see if there is any discrepency in the listing about bmw. if not you may be able to file a complaint with the local police. they will then contact ebay. ebay works with all local law enforcement. if you call ebay, they will tell you to do what i told you to do. but they wont get involved now unless the police are involved. ebay is a binding contract believe it or not. hope this helps and good luck.
