96 Tahoe w/5.7 Vortec

I picked up a very nice 96 Chevy Tahoe over the weekend. Despite its age it is very clean and only has 70K on the clock. Its a great beater and should get me around when it snows. The question I have is does anyone know how much oil it takes? Since it is a 5.7, I am guessing 5 quarts and a little extra for the filter. Does anyone know for sure?

I'd think 5 is about right. You know it is >4. When you do the oil change, just add 4.5, run for a few secs, check the stick. Add as required until in the 'ok' area on the stick.

I asked a couple guys here at work, they were all saying 5 quarts as well. This weekend when I do the oil change I'll see what the deal is.

I just changed the air filter on it today, the one that was in there could have been the original one it was so dirty.
