Thnking about a cam

I'm thinking about doing a cam in the mean time while I save up for my actual heads and cam combo just for the hell of it I had the MS4 and T-Rex in mind. Opinions?

I went with a torquer V.2 with LS6 heads and made just over 400rwhp/380rwtq through a 6spd and 9in. The car runs like it's stock, but to me it lost it's fun to drive factor.

I'd really make sure that you want to do a cam before you make the purchase. Also, if the car is a DD, I'd suggest not to do it. The time it takes to go from 0 to jail time is far too short. If I could, I probably would go back to just bolt-ons and the car would be more enjoyable to me.

Not being mean, but why would you purchase and install a cam now, along with tuning and supporting mods .... so you can get a new one with heads and do it again?

Yes I want my car to sound like that, the car is a daily but i could care less. I know it sounds stupid but if I can get a cam (most likely not the 2 I mentioned) that requires no valvetrain, I have no problem redoing the whole thing because my heads and cam that im ultimately going with are a good amount of time down the road. This whole idea popped into my head today put of nowhere so its by no means a definite.

With a new cam you'll at least need new springs. If you want a choppy idle for now, get yourself a hotcam or ASA cam and pickup a set of LS6 springs (can find takeoffs for $50~$80). You'll have the sound your looking for and driveability won't suffer. Just my $.02

when i did my MS3, i did new valve springs for its size as well as new retainers and hardened pushrods. I also put in a ported oil pump. It only makes sense since you're already in there. Trying to save a buck just hurts in the long run.

also keep in mind that more power means more stress on those weak '98 rod bolts, and high rpms can blow apart the needle bearing in the stock rockers... goal for more power means more things to address.

I would NEVER do a camshaft without doing pushrods, oil pump and timing chain...
