700r4 upgrade?

I have a recently rebuilt 84 700r4, Is this worth the money to do? How hard would it be to do? how much would a shop charge? Should I just upgrade to the newer trans and then have that one rebuilt when it grenades?

If you are planning on the power levels you are talking about, get a good one now instead of tearing the car apart a couple more times. I highly recommend Phoenix Transmissions. They did an unbelivable job on my 4l60/4l65 trans. and their customer service was outstanding.

Prices listed here are for new transmissions, but they do have a rebuild/upgrade service that I am sure is cheaper.

Phoenix's prices are pretty good I was looking into a raptor trans myself but there prices are about 500 to 600 more.

Pro-Built is supposed to put out some nice stuff, although I don't have any personal experience with them. Dana helps a lot of people out on TGO, and I think he's also a member here....

i cant afford to 600bucks to have a trans built, thats why i was asking if this was reputable, and if so how hard to do it, or how much for a shop, I HATE COTTMAN TRANSMISSION!!!!!!!!!

It does seem to be worth the money IF you can do it yourself.

How hard would it be to do?
I would have to say it is very complicated to do yourself.

IMO, A shop would charge at least 300 to do the installation of those parts.

What "newer" trans do you have?

I'd say just run what you have for now, get the car together and in a few years, get it on the road. IF it blows up then, youll have a better understanding of prices and options. Personally i would not recommend installing that kit yourself, hell, i wouldnt even do it myself. Auto transmissions are still something i wont do internal work on by myself yet.
