MotorTrend: Ford GT vs Ferrari 430 F1 (ringer)

this is causing a lot of drama over various car forums.

Basically, the ferrari engineers when told MT was coming to pit the Ford GT against their 430, they upped the power, and just in case, added a "cheat code" to the car to give it even more power in case their baby couldn't beat the GT. Motortrend estimated the ringer used in this test was making between 60 and 65 more horsepower then a stock 430.

After the article was published, MT said that, even with the extra power, and "cheat codes" turned on, the ferrari engineers were constantly tinkering with the cars suspension, while telling the MT editors and drivers they were simply fixing problems within the car after citing "abuse" to the vehicle what a crock of ****:

Here's the article:
http://motortrend.com/roadtests/coup...ari/index.html

very good read if you have the time

Our SLR isn't even in that cost range.... but our 65's are

the GT is clearly teh best "bang for the buck" super car in the world. overall i would still rather drive a ferrari than a ford though.
if i had to buy one to go racing i woudl have to take the ford. between materials, tuning, and gears it is far from optimized. basically it is just liek every other stock ford in that manner. for a racer that just means there is even more time that can be worked out of the car, where as teh ferrari i smuch closer to it's full potential off teh showroom floor.

Wasn't Motor Trend the magazine that made up that false story in '65 about how the Pontiac GTO beat the Ferrari GTO? If so, I don't believe a single word in this new article.

I think you are correct.... although, how would a new Z06 handle in that group of super cars?

as far as i have heard the Z06 has a slightly lower top speed, does 0-60 better but 0-100 slower and gives up a little bit of handling.
one of fords killer things on the GT is that they put a killer braking systme on it. not a lot fo cars can go as deep into a corner as the GT will.

they didn't add more power to the Ferrari. they made it launch similar to a F1 car.

I think that the Z06 can match the GT's braking performance. MT measured the C5 Z06 60-0 at 104', and I'm sure that the C6 Z06 is just as good, if not better. The GT in this test went 60-0 in 109'.
