who cares what color it is under your hood? when you blow someones doors off at teh track they can't see it anyway. my advice, polish up your tailights so everyone you beat can admire them.

I don't care what color it is but since it costs the same to paint I might as well choose something appealing. Also, does it sound like I'm spending $$$ on this engine bay? I said blacked out engine as in stock valve covers, painted everything else... I think it's going to look really good. Also, when you beat somebody and pop the hood they'll see the TBI and a stock appearance engine. I'll tell them the heads are GM stock and even the cam is GM .
I really think it'll turn out nice and simple. Clean is my game, just look at my stereo install. It's nothing booming out at you but when it comes to SQ it's a top dog .
Oh, and the tail's will be polished up. The whole car's getting some major TLC because a year of duct tape and 4 winters with salt make for a pretty crappy engine to even work on. That's the other major reason for the TLC. It's not fun wrenching on my engine when I can't even begin to guess what fluid that is sitting in the crevis of the intake manifold. Also, headers are getting wrapped because I've been through 2 sets of wires already and enough is enough. Also, while I'm doing all this, it's getting lighter. Not everything coming out is going back in and what does go back in will be modified to the fullest extent. Just to prove how insane I am about weight I've been measuring the weight of everything and it's in a spread sheet already. This way I can tell you what is, and isn't worth removing.

If the engine will be all black...you will need something to offset it. I say paint the engine bay the color of your car. Make the headlight pockets black to match the engine. Black/Red is always a good combination. Will your windows be tinted?

Prevo....I say do the engine bay with gloss black (POR 15). It's easy to just hose off and it stays glossy without much care. You won't have any rust problems like you will with regular paint...I'm starting to get some spots in my engine bay already.

I know you want to black out your engine but that's the best place to add a little color, not much, just a little. I'd black out your block and heads. Powdercoat your valve covers red to match the car and maybe powdercoat your intake an almost chrome color like mine? Depending on your preference you could also get a red MSD cap and maybe wires. Keep it simple, yet tasteful.

Agreed. I have a black engine bay in my '88 SS, and the block/heads/accessories are also black. The TPI, valve covers, and headers are all coated "Bright Aluminum" by Airborn up in CT.

Note: Since the pic was taken, my AIR pump and hoses are now !, and I will be installing some silver powdercoated hood hinges shortly.
