Since Koll = Crap, and cant make a full Post :
this is from an evo forum. The mods shut the thread down, so you can't see it, but someone on LS1tech.com managed to save page 1..
Quote:
TITLE - car stalls around loud cars
Everytime im around muscle cars or stuff like that my car stalls. Its like my cars scared. what can I do to fix it besides taking it to the worthless mishi. people. whats causing it.
Open the hood while the car is running and tap on the top of the airbox; it will do the same or very similar.
I beleive that it has to do something with the MAS being very sensitive etc to certain frequencies.
i think it has to do with the knock sensor
you can't do anything. It's the knock sensor picking up the impact of the open exhaust, and thinking that the car is pinging. In turn it pulls timing to the point that the car stalls. FWIW Harley's with shotgun pipes can do it too. The only way to get around it would be to reduce the sensitivity of the knock senor or bypass it alltogether, and I wouldn't recommend that.
Well Im sure then the mystery is solved.
haha. i'm sorry, but this cracks me up. i can imagine some old skool mustang or Camaro wanting to race... "sorry, i can't. my car is too scared of your car."
Your intake is causing the problem.

Given it "could" fear... what would it be afraid of? ROFLOL
or worse.. he's ready to race you at the drags and he revs hard to kill your engine

lolololol ^
oooohhhhhh! now i know why my car's idle dips around loud a$$ bikes and muscle cars. when it happend i was like wtf, i didn't let go of the clutch, i thought it was my dumba$$
hahahaha, the way you said it was funny! man, that sucks!!
yeah my car has done it to from my buddies turbo civic. He has open DP and he pulled up next to me and reved and my car almost stalled I was like WTF. At leastI know its normal.
It's definitely the knock sensor. It happened to me next to a harley once. It happens if you slam the hood while idling too.
yea i was at the beach for a classic car cruise there was TONS of cars. It doesnt stall much but it just acts scared lol. Allright thats cool just tryin to fix it but o well
This is too funny. Please don't let this thread get out to the muscle car guys. We will never hear the end of it!
THIS IS JUST THE FIRST PAGE...THAT'S ALL I COULD GET.
|
Cliffnotes : A Lancer Evo's Nock Sensor in the Intake, picks up loud idles of other objects (loud muscle cars, motorcycles) as excess nock, so the it retards the timing, or even to the point where the car will shut off.
So pull up to an Evo, and open your cut-outs, or rev the **** out of your car

<---don't try it with this EVO, it won't work, my buddies and I tried already. It only happens on stock/mild modded w/ no custom tune EVO's. It also only happens below 1400RPM's. It's may be the knock sensor, or the MAF may be overly sensitive to vibrations. No one is really sure yet. For some reason an AEM is a simple fix, $1400, but a simple fix none the less.(simple fix good for 50hp to the wheels)
BTW, Koll, what took so long to find this one? Usually you're on top of this stuff, not a few weeks behind.

then please wear some pampers next time I drive. I know 335whp isn't a big f-body number, but around corners, it's a whole different story.

Well, when I find things, I usually save them so I can post them at different times. That way we dont have a lounge of Koll threads
