For those who haven't already seen this Camaro chop.....

I'm sure some of you have seen the alfa chop of the concept camaro, but for those who haven't, what do you think:

It's based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competitizione, according to this thread:

Of the ones I've seen, I like that. Very clean lines. Not retro, but then it doesnt have to be.

The black color makes it look sleeker. I'd hit it when it came out. Oh wait, I'd still have another year of payments left on the Toyota.

Those look more like 70-73 Camaro taillights that they stole to put on the Cobalt so that would really be a bit of a retro touch. Looks good, especially in black. But the taillights still don't fit in with the look.

From that angle I'd say it was Italian, not American.

I'd say you were right, but I think that's the point. If you check out articles/histories about past generations, they mention that the styling had some Italian influence, not to mention the stereotype of who's behind the wheel (I can say that b/c I'm F.B.I. and own two!). Anyway, I do like the looks, but it might be false hope with all the ugly cars coming from Chevy lately (HHR, Uplander, Malibu sedan, SSR...)

Im sick of all these chops. If their is going to be a real one, how come GM hasnt released anything. Not even drawings? I personally believe its all hype, and were going to be let down in one big horrible thud.

Id much rather have it look "Italian" then look like a 4th gen, which drew design cues from....I have no ****ing clue.

Here is a big vote for the 5th gen to be styled after European GT cars.

not diggin the taillights....and the overall shape is reminiscient of the C6.

it's a good-looking chop, but:

A. It won't be the Camaro.

B. I don't want that to be the Camaro.

Eh - I kinda like seeing them. I don't get my hopes up or get upset about any of them, because I know that none of them come from GM.

And they don't always release stuff about a new car well in advance. Look at the C5. The look of that car was a huge secret right up till Jan 97. There were a few spyshots and stuff around, but very few people had any idea what it would really look like till they brought it to the autoshow.

Weren't the second gens credited as having some "European styling" in them when they were first released?

I think a sleek new style to a future Camaro would be a welcome thing. Each generation after the previous looked different for a reason, so the "fifth gen" -could- have some retro styling I suppose, but I would rather see it march forward. Chevy doesn't always have to follow the Mustang.

True, but I still think American's can design their own f-n cars. I don't think we're that inept to have to copy the over-sea's designs.
When I said that I didn't even see Justin's post that it was an Alfa.
For me, the vette has sold it's soul to the European's. It's turning into something it isn't with the strong Euro styling cues. If they wanted to sell to European's why make it look like something they see frequently? The whole allure to the vette and the viper 'where' their muscle appearances. The c5 sold in the states because it looked like a larger rx-7 and the viper was much more attractive when its aero dynamics were ignored. Don't get me wrong, all the cars are great but my point is that they/we need to start picking up better marketing groups. Like who all was tested on the appearnace of the new vette? Probably only people with $$$ that work in NYC and drive BMW's because if it were 'normal' people I think the flip up lights would have stayed or at least been an option.
For me, if it's going to come from this country it shouldn't be a badged up import. The first GTO is a perfect example of this. It looked like it rolled off the ship so to speak. They finally got better with the 05 model because they added AMERICAN styling cues. They have to do this with the camaro and as much as I hate to say this, retro seems to be the best path. I usually hate retro but this isn't the same retro as the PT cruiser or the other crap out there. This retro would be of the same model, not a new one so in a way it would just wrap up the best of all the years or the most popular and package it with the traditional muscle rwd platform.
What I think would be a great looking 5th gen camaro; Front end takes a 69 and 70 front end and blends them together. The grill has to be somewhat tall like the 70, that thing just looked too good but the rest of the front i sa smoothed out 69. Fixed headlights is a MUST to be a camaro so no 1st gen RS cues. The spoiler in the rear needs to be a wrap around or a small high rise like in the later 3rd and 4th gens. The doors need to be simple and clean. The fenders need to have small flares like from 3rd gens, none of this smoothy crap that has been on every car since 92. Then the hood needs to have something other than flat. It's gotta be a small cowl or SS type, nothing huge, just suddle. Other than that, it shouldn't have the swept back LONG front windshield (silly 4th gens). Other than that, it's a free for all, do whatever you want to the ground effects, wheels, interior, I could care less so long as it has the above I think it would attract a LOT of customers new and old. But hey, that's just my opinion, probably nobody elses.
