SERIOUS legal question
so I was posting around showing people my tint that I just got and I was told something quite scary by a few people on one form. Aparently your insurance can completly void a claim if heaven forbid, i get into an accident, or even worse, one whihc involves personal injury, if you have illegal tint? Has anyone ever heard of this happened or KNOW for a fact one way or the other the truth behind this? Aparently because you are no longer operating a "legal" motor vehicle.

P.S in plainer terms, if ssomeone with illegal tint hits a pedestrian and gets sued, aparently your insurance doesn't have to pay you.

i can't see that as possible. if they used obstruction of view as a way to avoid paying on accidents everyone who ever hung their HS graduation tassle from the rear view wouldn't be able to claim.
most insurance companies jsut pay up front anyway. they are insured for your insurance(nice system ain't it) and they jsut pay off whatever amount you are liable for according to your policy. if the person wants to sue and go after more money then it is pretty much gonna be on you either way.

If that was true, all the auto window tinting companies would have been out of buisness by now!
Because if an insurance drops someone from service over tint, that person would turn around and sue the tinters.

Why not call and ask the insurance company wouldn't that be a easy way to find out. Don't tell them you tinted your car windows just ask a what-if?

never ask your insurance company any question like that. they will rerate your policy on the spot.
if you want to know your insurance companies rules and regulations you can ask for them in print and read it all yourself.

do what i do, just call a different insurance company and ask them the questions, say you dont have your policy number on hand but you have a quick question. lol
and as far as your question goes, i personally never heard anything like that. if it is true in anyway, you can fight it just the same, say you hit someone head on, then the ins. company has to prove that it was due to and obstruction of veiw out your side windows, not likely and hard for them to back up. also if you back into someone, its not a tint issue either, rear windows in nj can be ANY percent, even 100. The whole subjetc falls into a large grey area. like theyd have to prove wiondows were up in the first place. they may try to avoid paying a claim, but they cant drop you just for that and they cant get away 100% with refusing a claim, they can say no but you can fight it, its never an open and shut case. I had 5% tints on my STS and my SS for a long time, i only took the SS side tints off since they were peeling, but if i still had them, i wouldnt lose any sleep over worrying about my insurance company, and trust me, my insurance company has watched my house and taken pictures of my yard and driveway. since i part out cars all the time and have parts laying around they never know which cars they are insuring and if those are the ones in peices.

aparently the main thing that matters is if your insurance company has a policy against illegally tinted windows they will tell you if you just ask them their policy on them
