SES Light Help Please

So my SES Light has been on since I took my car out for the first time all winter on Saturday.

I went to Autozone just now and they scanned it for me. And code P0412 came up.

P0142 - AIR Solenoid Relay Control Circuit

Anyone know exactly what that means and or what I have to do?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I know AIR is emmissions so I'm not sure if this would have anything to do with it but my car has a home depot intake on it that came with the car when I bought it. I haven't had to chance to take it off yet.

Like I said not sure if that has anything to do with my SES Light problem but just thought I would ask.

Check the fuse to the AIR pump. Maybe it's just blown out. Or the relay itself for the AIR pump is bad. I pulled my relay to disable the AIR stuff and I got the code right away.

If it's on an IROC then check the two connections on the passenger side of the motor right behind the a/c compressor. They are covered with a plastic piece. Those control the AIR injection on a thirdgen.

harcorez28 its on my 96 but thanks for the help.

jeff thanks for the advice saturday morning I plan on checking to see if its the fuse or the relay. I'm leaning towards the relay I think because the light went on in the fall then turned off then came back and now is back again. So I think the relay maybe keeps losing power?

How would I know if its the relay? Do I check it for voltage or something?

I hope its just a fuse though cause that'd be a lot easier than the relay I assume.

I think there is a way to test a relay for power or to make sure it clicks when you engage it. They're easy to replace. I had the relay go bad on the fog light setup on my 4Runner. If your SES light goes out and comes back on it might be a loose connection at the relay or the relay getting ready to go bad.

I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow morning but this is what I am thinking it could be.

1) Its the fuse

2)The relay has gone or is going bad

3)The ground or some sort of connection is bad for the relay

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow morning.

well I looked at it yesterday morning and still no luck.

all the wiring seems to be intact, the fuse is not blown.

I took a wild stab at it and went out and changed the relay but that didn't work.

Any ideas on what could possible go wrong with a solenoid so I can trouble shoot that?

I know its nothing major to really worry about but the dam SES light is anoying and I want it to go away lol. And even though I know I could just delete it at school I'd rather fix it the right way.

I think there was a TSB recall for the AIR wiring harness but I can't remember which years. But I thought that problem would lead to blown fuses which you aren't having problems with. It sounds like you've got an intermittent power problem to the AIR pump. Unless the real problem is the EVAP solenoid that purges fumes from the gas tank and not the AIR solenoid.

if it was the evap wouldn't it have shot that code?

i know its probably unlikely but think the problem could be through the pcm somehow?

worst comes to worst I'll just order my LT's without emmissions fittings and have that be the end of it
