building a blown L98...
ok im am toyign with the notion of building another motor for the Monte SS but this time starting from the gound up with plans for a centifical supercharger. I was reading that over 6PSI of boost of a stock motor will melt the riston rings and do damage. I would want to run 9-10 PSI on this motor. I also would be installing a custom aftercooler for it. As for injection i'd like to stick with the TPI setup i currently have in the car, and i know it wont be the MOST efficent but im also thinkign to boost will overcome soem of the air flow resrictions the tpi is known for. The car will not be competatively raced so every last bit of power/ 1/4 mile time is not important, i just want something with impressive power for what it is.
Ok about the long block, it will be a 89 L98 block, standard bore. crank will be stock too. I want to reuse the roller lifter valvetrain, but i know ill probably need a custom camshaft. As for the rods, will the stock ones hold up? I will get new pistons to lower the compression ratio. and then what should i look for with new piston rings? Can i also get away with the stock L98 head setup? the car already does have shortie headers and a full hooker catback. And of course i knwo id need a custom chip burned and larger injectors probably as well(it has LT1 injectors in it now).
basically im asking what i need to do to build a L98 to take 10psi of boost from an aftercooled system.... any info/advice?
