Damn popped a tire on I95 this morning
The IROC started driving a bit weird across the Walt Whitman. Nothing too strange, but as soon as I made it to I95 I heard the thump thump sound no one wants to hear. Yup, right front tire. I managed to change the spare on (and fill it with the CO2 bottle provided). I limped to my local tire place back home who said because of severe cracking I really need 4.
The car is now in my driveway and I'll be driving the "daily driver".
Do any of you have recommendations for good, reliable tires? I do *not* take the car to the track and I drive it like I own it. Car is setup as a "cruiser". I don't need the top of the line but not the el-cheap-o's either. Something good in the rain that I can use when driving the car to and from work.

BFG KDW tires have always been great for me, especially in wet conditions.

Does the car ever see snow?
If it's a dry/wet tire you are looking for, the Fusion ZRi is a good tire. I put a set of them on my Lumina just over a month ago, and the difference from normal all-seasons to them when it rains is amazing.

Thanks for the info. I had forgotten about Tire Rack.
No, my IROC never sees snow, at least with the enigne on . It is my sunny day driver to / from work car. The only time I drive it in the rain was when my wife's old Ford van would break down once a month.
I saw a few I liked but will probably go with the Kumho ECSTA AST's for $60 per tire unless someone knows another good low-cost tire. Is there anyone who works for a tire retailer in South Jersey who will give a brother a great deal on Camaro tires?

BigAl is over in Ocean Twp., but he can get some good tires on your car. I dunno if he can beat that price though.
Shoot him a PM and he'll help you out.

Sumitomo HTR Z's are only $68 each, and I know several people who have said they are good tires (haven't used them myself though).
Kumho ECSTA 711's are only $50 each, but I have heard that the treadware sucks on them.
Fuzion ZRi's are $78 each, and they are a good tire.
These prices are all from Tirerack for a 245/50/16.....

Dude, I95 really sucks. When I first started driving in 2002 I had a 79 Ford Granada (my Grandfather gave it to me the day before he passed away) and I was in the middle of 5pm traffic on the way to the shore, and the front left tire blew out. Never hit a single other car, but ended up in the median. It messed up the fender/hood/door and a bunch of other things underneath the car. Craziest thing i have ever been through, glad to see youre okay. Some of these tires above are good just pick what you think are the best for your application.
