I tried the free generous aproach once but it didnt work. Heres my illistration... I hate to be the happy go lucky hippy buzz killer but those people that got hugs are lucky that guys really a hippy and didnt jack their wallet. Its a dog eat dog world out there and I refuse to beleive it will change even a little.

I tried to give free breast exams to women...that didn't work out too well.

I'm pretty sure that suicidal cases dont walk around the mall shopping at hollister. Plus dont be so limp wristed.

Actually, a 75-year-old guy was arrested in the city not too long ago for doing that. He was going around knocking on people's door pretending he was a doctor and asking women if they wanted a free "screening." And a couple broads actually let him in. He would start "examing" them, and then get rough with them.

I think the free hug thing is a good idea. I'm sure it made a lot of people happy. Besides, it gives everyone a moment to stop, have a nice moment in their day and forget about all the stupid crap in their life for a few minutes.

who do you think commits suicide? you ever read the interviews of friends of those who have done it?
they almost always have the same refrain about not having any idea anything was wrong or that the person had reached that point in their own mind.
i know people who have gone there man, and i can tell you from those experiences that you will not guess who is capable of killing themselves based on shopping habits or what social circle they keep.
a lot of the time people who are considering suicide are on the edge of following through with their decision. someone offering a free hug could be more than enough to make them change their mind for hours or days, or at least hopefully long enough for them to get some help with whatever is troubling them.

I'm just a cold person I guess. Always been a very black/white theres a solid answer for everything kind of a guy. Never dove much into the touchy feely gray areas... I will admit I have no horrible story or anything like that just see enough on the news and know enough about how other people feel in this world about me (despight the fact that they dont know me) to feel strongly against them. I live in what most would call the perfect household where my parents arent divorced, get along, love each other, middle class, TV sitcom family. When it comes down to it I guess I've only seen the extreme of things (aka news) to take into consideration. Also it doesnt help that I dont know anyone in my life emotionally unstable, so I dont really understand it.
