Sounds to me like a possible faulty MAP sensor, all though it could be a few other things. How long after ripping it does it go back to losing power?

easiest thing to start with would prolly be the IAC. it can get gummed up or wear out and hang open/closed. if it is hanging open it will cause a lean condition and rob the engine of a bunch of power.
just pul it out and clean the IAC and the port with some carb cleaner. then reinstall and reset it.

Well that depends. If you got a bad IAC, your RPM will fluctuate at idle, instead of staying at a constant 1500RPM. If you DO clean your IAC, make sure you don't get the cleaner in the IAC motor. Cuz then you're f'ed out of an IAC.

yes, the TBI's all used the same IAC(4cyl through big block) and will interchange.

possibly the Egr system is malfuntioning! find the egr valve and the simple way to test is to use a vacume pump and hook it to the vacume line the engien should stall or come close to stalling if its working if it dosnt stall the egr valve is no good or the passage is cloged or broken in some way
