Anything you can drop a SBC in, you can drop an LT1 in.....
Never really looked over this board, but LT1Tech.com has a hybrid section like LS1Tech does....

What he said. Hell, don't SBC exhaust headers bolt right up too? Most kits I see are LS oriented.
It might be easier to find a car then figure out the details.

I dont have any links off hand, but..
in the 4th gen LT1 cars, the current engine mounts are unique and those mounts themselves cannot be reused in say a 3rd gen, BUT On the LT1 blocks, there is an extra threaded boss on the side of the block(not used in 4th gen apllications) and that other bolt hole is used in order to bolt up a standard SBC mount(3rd gen for example) to the LT1 block.
As for accesories, a lt1 f body engine belt bracket setup will not fit without soem minor modification for the compressor. But you then can look at the Corvette LT1 accessory bracket setup with allows more lower clearence.
A custom trans crossmember could be bought(at least for 3rd gens) or made, the mounting point of T56 is just about 3" further back than T5/700R4
painless wiring makes stand alone setups to run the LT1, or you could swap the entire wiring harness over which wouldnt be that difficult
SBC headers bolt up, but im not sure if there is anythign about the shape of the exhaust port, even so, you could use an lt1 flange, and cut the flange off sbc headers and reweld.

I think you need to use D-Port headers, but I'm not sure.

i wouldn't get too hung up on the D-port thing. the bolt pattern is the same as a standard small block and all you really need to do is trim the gasket back to match the exhaust port. the header tubing al turns round at some point anyway, why not right at the flange
i know it sounds like a lame fix, big in the dyno testingi have seen the only engines that are sensitive to tradition vs d-port headers seem to be the old poncho's

please please please don't be one of THOSE guys. the s-10 v8 thing has been done so many times and the results in performance are ssssoooooo pitiful. f-bodies have a bad enough front to rear weight distribution, that should be leson enough in balance, but to throw a little bitty pick up bed over the rear makes it even worse.
hey, there is a clean looking(at 40mph drive by) 86ish monte ss near the west trenton 7-11 for sale. maybe you coudl chuck the LT1 + T56 in that.

Is that the white one on the left as you are heading from 7-11 towards the airport? I've seen that car for years, hadn't realized it was up for sale.

The white one by the airport inn (or whatever it is called)? I think is has a F/S sign on it.
I think a Ponitac derivative might be cooler - and more unique! Maybe you could use some T/A parts (I dunno, wheels, etc). Just a thought.

id say do a nice base model 3rd gen firebird, do the complete 4th gen dash swap, seats etc inside, the TA wheels, rear etc, and then the drivetrain. all the wiring could be swapped over pretty easily as well.

i have thought about it but it will throw the 50/50 weight distribution off! that is still a really clean looking swap! i think ive seen that car the guy even put corvette front/rear bumper on it! yeah the hose covers need to go!

How do you shove a T56 in there?
I like Paul's idea too. I've seen that done in 1st and 2nd gens too. Pretty neat.

All it takes is a hacksaw blade and some trimming! LT1 and T56 in a Monte SS would be a cool car.

Agreed! Fuelie G-bodies are cool. Or, do the 3rd Gen F-body swap. Almost everything can swap right over fairly easily; wiring harness, engine/tranny, interior, etc. Good luck, whatever you decide!
