does my 3rd member look ok in these pics?

the gears look fine, but theres this one part (highlighted in red) is it supposed to look like that? i got posi all of the time going straight but turning it would do peg leggers most of the time. Im thinking that those 4 pieces are supposed to be pushing against it or something?

Not sure.

2 hints for taking pics of parts.
1) no flash.
2) manual focus can be very useful

That explains it. I wasn’t trying to be a jerk, I see lots of bad pics – and these are hard to see - just trying to help. A lot of people don't use all the buttons on their camera.

No, I don't think it's broken if it's a Traction-Lok. That picture is of an open differential. Auburn DOES make a limited slip diff for the 9" though, could be the same style. I've never dealt with an Auburn.

Here's some info on the internals:

http://www.ultrastang.com/Rearinfo.asp?Page_ID=2

How is your fluid? Any friction material in there?

Jack the car up and slowly turn one wheel. Do you hear clunking or clanking?

I haven't rebuilt a Traction-Lok yet, but I know with Eatons you can "tune" how hard they grab around corners and such by using different preload springs...

Wait a second. It's tough to tell from your pic... do you have 4 "halves" of a cross shaft?

I will check with the guy that built my 9". I am pretty sure you are supposed to have two halves and one full cross shaft.

Yep, the consensus is that you have a broken cross shaft. There's supposed to be a block in there as well... any sign of that?

At this point, if I were you I'd take the whole assembled center section to whoever is good at rear setups in your area.
