Gov's SUV @ 91mph Before Crash
Just heard on the radio that the SUV the Gov was riding in was doing 91mph with the emergency lights on before the crash. I'd hardly consider a meeting between Imus and the Rutgers Women's B-ball team an emergency

Not to mention the guardrail is already fixed. Suspicious because most times that kinda stuff takes years to fix haha.

LMAO....

i went on a squad call a few days ago, and i took my patient to st peters hospital in new brunswick. i got there as like 2 edison units and another ambulance and a cop or two came in. apparently, there had been some multi-car accident somewhere in edison with overturned vehicles and 3 patients or something to that effect. the driver that caused it was MIA. i saw an edison cop walking out of the ER, and he mumbled under his breath to the ER security guard
"Funny, there's no manhunt for this guy...."

Don't be surprised if they come down on the Trooper hard. NJ takes alot of pride in its Troopers and I would imagine he will be out of a job, and with the charges they are considering him for, he may be spending some time in jail. Things can change just that fast. With the way they wanted to crucify the Trooper caught in the gambling ring, I'm interested to see how this plays out.

David Jones, president of the State Trooper Fraternal Association, said, “That's part of the mission. There's no wrongdoing by going 91. If anyone's going 90 in order not to be overtaken or parallel with another vehicle, that's well within the standard practice. We've employed this practice for over 80 years and we've never had a governor hurt.”

That quote is taken out of context. That is referring to the governor's motorcade, as they don't want the governor to be riding parallel with someone down the highway.

To me, this whole discussion and the one about the street racing tragedy in Neptune have the same underlying tone. The parallel is excessive speed on public roads. Speeding itself is not inherently dangerous. But it exponentially magnifies the problem when the unexpected occurs, be it a blow out, a guy swerving, or someone making an illegal turn. Reaction time is cut and the accident related forces are higher. That is why there is no such thing as safe street racing/speeding. And yes, I speed. But not 30+ over. And never on streets <55 MPH.
And only meatheads don’t wear seatbelts.

I think the Trooper will be okay. Let's look at the governor's schedule for that day. I could be missing a few things or have the order wrong, but I believe his day started in Pennsylvania for the slain FBI agent's funeral, followed by a function in Bergen County and then having to go to the ridiculous Imus apology (I'll leave this one alone as it still astounds me). Throughout all of this, the NJSP troopers assigned to his detail are expected to get him there safely. Is it the trooper's fault Corzine didn't bother to buckle up? Kind of hard for a public servant who has to walk on eggshells for a living. Are YOU going to tell the governor, "We're not going anywhere until you put on your seatbelt, mister!" No...you're not. You're going to shut up and drive so that you don't end up with a crappy assignment for the rest of your career.
I guess the point of my rambling is that the trooper did what he doubtlessly was ordered to do and I'm sure the union will go to bat for him. Just like the other quote says, it's been standard practice for years.

I'm not advocating action taken against him, as I myself will be trying to become a NJSP Trooper. What I really feel, as with many professions, and many things in society, image is everything. Sometimes it does not matter if someone was right or wrong, or following orders, or what; I would not be surprised to see people turn their back to save an image. I hope the union does go to bat for him, as it seems the fraternal order is; I'm just saying in the 'public' eye, it doesn't look good for him. Hopefully this whole thing blows over, the governer recovers 100% and everything is chill.
