bad move. milions of dollars wasted on another old man when they have the young talent to see them through the season and many more tocome. why go back to the retirement aged arm system that has let them down so many times in the last few years.

That is my feeling on the whole thing, but he is 10x better then what we have now. Rocket has been around since I was a kid, and I dont know if he will have what it takes to cary out how ever long the Yanks need him.

thats irrelevant......it wasnt a trade to get him. it was cash, which since baseball dosent have a salary cap is of no importance to the yankees (as you know). no matter how old he is, he was one of the top pitchers in the nl last year from the date he came back to the end of the season, if he shows half of that hes better than the yankees 4th and 5th starters as it stands now.
not only that but their young talent now has pettite, moose, and clemens to teach them the ropes for the years to come.

he is useless and can only cause distraction. is he stil good, yes. is there space for him in a healthy yankees rotation, no.
why waste everyone's time with a former red sox that has already screwed the team over once?
he will get two or three starts, do ok, the yanks wil get all their planned starters back and then we can add the rotation circus to the locker room drama. just what every team in the media capitol of the world needs, another clown for the press to create an entire circus around.
dump him, give the money to charity, win a world series with the talent you already have.

I agree. Didn't we learn our lesson after Randy Johnson? Granted Clemens is in better shape than Johnson...but even so, signing a pitcher at that age is very risky. Plus I don't think it was necessary to have him announce it to the whole crowd between innings that he's coming back. Like he's our savior or something.

Wow...found out...28 million for a year? WOW. Just wow.
Well, its not a full 28 million cause he's not playing a full year, but still a massive chunk of change for ONE year.
We better go 145-15 at this rate.

where wont he fit in that staff tim?
1. moose....back but on a pitch count and getting old.
2. pettite.....getting old
3. hughes.....best prospect out for 6 weeks
4. igawa........PLEASE
5. wang.....good pitcher in the 4-5 slot
6. wright....expeiment gone wrong, needs another year in the minors.
7. pavano.... about to have tommy john, done for the year.
so thats the starting pitchers on the yankees 40 man roster, common sense shows he will fit for the season.
and its VERY different from the randy johnson signing, since that was a multi year deal with a pitcher known for his back problems and non personality

Mike, Wang was second in Cy Young voting last year, and almost threw a perfect game the other day. IMO, the rotation is:
1. Clemens
2. Wang
3. Petite
4. Moose
5. Someone else – one of the kids or igawa.
Hughes will be out at least 8 weeks, and then likely head back to the minors. He is the #1 pitching prospect in baseball and the Yanks will go back to protecting him, at least for a while.
Clemens <> RJ. Clemens has proven he can handle NY, which a lot of players never do. It’s ain’t like playing in Kansas City or Arizona. Plus RJ had a track record of health issues (back, knees) prior to coming to NY. Not Clemens.
You guys also forget that teams get insurance contracts on these guys. They will likely be getting money back on Carl ‘never pitching for the Yanks again’ Pavano. So there is some house money there. (recovery from TJ surgery = 18 months, which would be Dec 08, contract expired)
Wow, if all ‘has beens’ had these numbers, I’d love to be a ‘has been’.
Code:
Year W L IP H K ERA WHIP BAA
2004 18 4 214.1 169 218 2.98 1.16 0.217
2005 13 8 211.1 151 185 1.87 1.01 0.198
2006 7 6 113.1 89 102 2.30 1.04 0.216
And I am not sold on Boston’s pitching, either.

i'm glad they picked up clemens. besides the leadership he'll bring for the younger guys, he's a proven winner. and even at 45 he'll still be better then the **** they have now for pitching. pettite gives quality starts (mariano blew the win on him twice in a row. wang is a decent pitcher, moose, you never know what you'll get with him. either a 2 hitter or he'll suck. hughes will be good but that injury will hurt alot cause he'll be back down in the minors. remember the cream rises to the top we'll see where they are come september(in the playoffs i'll bet). 28 million for 1 year is friggin rediculous but thats how desprite the yanks are. dontelle willis from the marlins was available they should have grabbed his ass. but they will probally wait till he's washed up then the yanks will sign him. thank god randy johnson is gone he sucked the big one since the day the yanks signed him.
and i could do just as bad as pavano. he flat out SUCKS. should'nt even be getting paid that bum.
28 million jesus christ thats absurd!!!!
