Yaple Motorsports 7/7/07

had a pretty good night at the track last night.
heat race went well, car wasn't getting off the corners very well because of too much stagger, 8inches of stagger = no forward bite. got 2nd and transfered to the feature.
heat races became a way to make up a few points in the standings, they give out bonus points to the top 3 finishers in each heat race. 1st=5pts, 2nd=3pts, 3rd=1pt. several of the guys at the top of the points struggled and randy's 3bonus points helped close the gap a bit on a few guys ahead of him.
feature time. thanks to having some pretty good finishes the last few weeks the handicapping, which inverts the order based on your last 3 finishes, put randy in 7th starting spot.
inititial green drops, randy hikes up his man pants and pulls the big balls move into turn one, came off of turn two in 2nd place!!!
of course this glorious start gets called back because some non drivers hit each other and brught the caution out before the lap was complete. that sort of sums up our luck this year.
restart, randy makes the move again with less success and comes off of two in 5th place and then just starts picking guys off one at a time.
ended up coming home second and making huge ground up in the season points standings. most of the top 10 in points finished in places from 6th back including john pursell who is second in points finishing 21st.
had a lot of fun watching it as randy in the 99 had a 5 or 6 lap battle with the 99H of jesse "the thrill" hill over the second spot. they swapped it twice before randy got it to stick, we think jesse used up his tires trying to keep randy's pace.
th only car that finished in front of randy was the same guy that always seems to be up there when randy does well, jimmy horton IV. jimmy puled away, randy never really had anything for him.
it was a good night, we killed another set of tires but the prize money should buy new ones for next week. we have the basic set up and tuning of the car down pretty good now, we are just a small tweak or two away from parking the #99 in victory lane.
