Good place to buy jewelry?
Well my fiance's bday is coming up and she mentioned she would really like a pair of diamond stud earings among a few other things. I was kinda shocked she asked that because she isn't really into jewelry. She knows they are expensive so doesn't expect them but I'm getting a bonus from my company in a month so I am going to put some of that cash towards her gift.
So where is a good place that is pretty common to check out? I would prefer to go to a store and not order online. Any suggestions?
She has been going through a lot (recently had hip surgery) and I think that she needs a little present.

Macy's. Not kidding. You can stack so many discounts that stuff that is normally out of your price range is attainable. Last Christmas I bought a set of diamond cluster earrings that were originally priced at $1300 for $800- or 60% off. When I went to a bunch of local jewelers (and even some jewelry outlets like the Zales outlet in Flemington) the same earrings were priced near the original price of $1300 with NO discount.

Helzberg Diamonds for me, used them since purchasing my wife's engagement & wedding rings. Decent prices, great customer service(at least in my case) and very nice stuff IMHO.

jeweler's row, sansom street in philly. i bought my wife's diamond local, but the place is out of business now (sold their stuff too low - near cost). there is a place close by in toms river that runs a special between december 25th and january first - if it snows, your purchase is free (some insurance company uses the farmer's almanac to adjust their rates). i think you have to buy between dec 1 and 25th, tho. my dad knows a few people in the biz that have their own shops at home as well as what they do during the day. if you are really serious, i can get you some numbers.
experience says don't go to a mall. their stuff is overpriced and not of the best quality.
do your homework online, then go to a brick and mortar.

I agree....I would go check out Macy's. They usually have a decent sale going on. They talked my dad into opening a CC and he save additional money. It's worth a shot. Zales always seems to have some nice things too. I wouldnt count on to many sales there though.

From my shopping I've found Zales to have decent stuff but overpriced for what you are getting...

Thanks for the responses guys. I actually have done a very large amount of research back when I got my lady's engagement ring...I swear I should have been a gemologist lol. I just want something simple, don't rip me off and good customer service. I'll start looking at some of the places mentioned.

My first choice for you would be ARLINGTON JEWELERS in Nutley because they have phenomenal jewelry. My friend's mom used to work there and I would always be in the jewelry store, I know the manager, he is really cool, his name is Sal, they have awesome jewelry and its the real deal at a reasonable price. They are located on Franklin Ave. across the street from Nutley High School, they're phone number is, (973) 661-1558, highly recommended. My second choice besides Macy's as mentioned by others would be a jewelry store in the Willowbrook Mall would be the one by the food court, its either a Kay Jewelers or a Zales, my other friend's ex-girlfriend works there. One of my other friends just bought his girlfriend a promise ring from that one and it is gorgeous. Hope this helped. Jeff.

Corbo Jewelers. They have chains all over the place. My dad's gf worked at the one in Clifton and now works down in Old Bridge. There stuff is reasonably priced and they have wonderful customer service. I also get discounts through her (the cost of our wedding rings cost less than what mine would have been on its own, and the jewelry gift I gave my bridesmaids were nearly 25% off each, plus my jewelry was nearly 30% or more off). But even without the discounts its pretty reasonable.
They have a website... www.corbojewelers.com so you can possibly find either stores more local.
