Good news about my engine!
Machine shop called today, they started checking out my junk and the crank can be saved. Not bent, magnafluxed fine and they can fix the journals. Doing the block now, they said everything done as far as clearancing the block and such was a top notch job, they don't see any reason to start over on another block, they liked what they saw.
What they think right now is that the sprayed caps were installed improperly. Not sure what that means, he mentioned they appeared to fit loose? But right now they are thinking I may just need new caps and reboring the block will fix it.
They still need to test and spec out the block to be sure. If good then all of the bearings are going to be replaced as well. Rings have no more then 500 miles on them so don't think they'll need replacing, but he's going to double check everything.
I'm so glad I don't need to replace a $1400 crank!

if the block was cut and you said the caps were incorrectly install IE loose than cutting crank saddles again will result in a loose timing chain and possibly seal problems because of the height crank was moved up too far -- the crank and cam get closer together every time saddles are cut -- in some cases the dist ends up pushing on the oil pump and wipes it out - because the distance is not enough no up and down free play -- in these cases we have punched the block base next to the cap once its bolted with crank installed to tighten the cap so its alignment ends up being correct -- just a different way we do it to avoid the problems stated above -- hope in the end it all works out for you -- jz

johnjzjz thanks, that great info. I never would have thought about those things!
The shop is up near me, S+S Speed ( Near Benton PA ). Bob Strunk use to race, now both his sons race and work at the shop. Bob worked for Joe Amato building his engines and was super nice to talk with and did explain allot about remachining.
I told him I had another virgin block so if anything didn't look 100% right I'd drop that one off and he could start from scratch.
I'm just glad to hear that everything isn't wasted. I wasn't sure if anything like excess heat or something could have damaged my rods, or even if the rods somehow contributed to the failure? Scraping the block is one thing, scraping the block and near $3,000 worth of rotating assembly - ouch!

Sounds like your in the right kind of shop - and they will mag the rods for cracks and on a rod machine they will be able to tell if the big and small ends are out of round as well as being in alignment with each other - we usually grind the caps than re size rods with an up grade bolt - you can have them crioed ( frozen ) if your iffy about them, and crank cutting and re nitrite might be in order - good luck i am sure the shop will do the right thing -- jz
