Dilbert portrays 'real jobs' well, LOL.

For the past 10 years or so I've been a Business Systems Analyst and Project Manager. The BSA part can be hard to describe to people. This was in Sunday's paper. Basically, this sums it up:

My role in systems is a lot of hurry up & wait, and conference calls, thus occasional free time to wander forums. Like right now. A CC I have to be on for no reason.

Between Office Space and Dilbert, welcome to the cubical jungle, baby! I know a few here can relate, like sliderule, JL8 and Untamed Dave.

You know, if it didn't pay this well, I wouldn't laugh at the absurdity. Never have I come across more people who waffle than at strategy meetings where project priorities must be decided.

I just love how I must generate models and drawings to satisfy marketings demands and not one member of the marketing staff has any engineering backround, when they propose changes which exceede the capabilities of our machine shop I try to explain to them that we can not manufacture their design in house and they look at me like I have 4 heads, and it it happens on every project and everyone is suprised every time it happens. Its amazing there arent more movies like office space out there

HaHa! I just got done sending out an email to the "project team" explaining what needs to be done and who needs to do it. The first response was 'now we need to work on a plan and a timeline' and this was for something that the "testing" phase ended on last Friday. It will be interesting to see who waffles and clouds the issue further. I'm trying to pick which unpopular coworker to blame this on! Not really, we all work together pretty well, so blame needs to go up the ladder!

to prove the stupidity of management, today i was informed i was elected for and got to sit in on my first meeting of the store "visioning" commity. basically lowes did so poorly in their employee survey for the 3rd consecutive year that they have decided to take action and put together a grup with no real power or way to influence anything to correct teh matter

so i, mr ****ing sunshine got invited to sit in on this. i got paid for 2 hours to listen to people of higher rank than me complain about evrything from lazy people, to people that take extended breaks, to the upper management, who were in the meeting BTW, being a bunch of unpleasant jerks.

they asked for my opinion, they got it, none of them bothered me the rest of the day. i guess honesty really does work

Last week we sent the new guy to the stock room, we call it the cage, to get a copper magnet and the poor bastard went. He has an engineering degree from Stevens.

we generally fake a phone call and tell them to run down to building materials for a bunk of morning wood and a concrete stretcher that delivery has to take out right away.
in all the time we have done it i can only rememebr one guy who knew what we were up to. later he proved that was about all he knew, but it was fun wjile it lasted.
