XS Stainless headers installed
I got the used XS Stainless headers install on Thanksgiving. I still need to add the driver's side cat but it's running good for now. Nice looking headers and seem to fit really well. I got the emission's headers to try and keep it nice and legal but they have the 98-99 style EGR and AIR connections so I needed to grab some of those parts for the install. I couldn't get any good pictures from the top due to the AIR stuff in the way, but here are some pictures anyway. They are T321 stainless which is the highest quality available. The biggest issue with my headers was that the previous owner had the muffler shop cut the collectors off because the dual exhaust was welded to them. The passenger side header only has about 1 to 1-1/2" of collector past the O2 bung but the cat bolted up good and tight so it should be fine. And I did trim down the driver's side clamp after the picture to reduce a chance of contact with the speedbumps at work. I was able to keep all the factory heat shielding as well.

The high quality egr & air stuff you acquired puts the install over the top!

It was the AIR pipe gaskets that made all the difference! I actually ended up using the 2000 passenger side AIR pipe after heating it up and rotating it 90 degrees to line up the fitting. The 99 pass side pipe was right up against the spark plug wire and I didn't like that. Things would have gone so much better if I had remembered to connect that #8 plug wire before starting the car back up!

Get rid of the exhaust clamps and get yourself some stainless band clamps, they won't crimp the pipes and they require 0 clearance and they just plain look better.

I have the stainless band clamps and they were leaking at every connection. Plus, with the collectors being cut short, there's no room for the band clamps because of the O2 bungs. I still need to add the driver's side cat and then probably get some of the joints welded up. Have you installed any of these XS Stainless headers yet Josh? They seem to fit well. I heard they are doing a slight re-design to lower the driver's side collector a little and will be offering emission's hookups again and a catted stainless y-pipe.

Looks good, can't wait to hear it. Did you decide to run open cats, or what?

Still running with 1 cat at the moment. It's pretty raspy and my muffler (Jardine) seems to echo it even worse. Might have to look into another cat-back but it's fine for now.

This may be a stupid question but why not put the other cat on before you form your opinion?

I don't plan on doing anything until I get the other cat put on. I'm waiting on a stainless steel 3" y-pipe to see how well that will line up before I waste time adding the cat to my current TSP y-pipe. I'll get the cats welded in once I make my final decision so that will eliminate a couple of small leaks.

He was talking about running open cats a little while ago...What's your plan with that Jeff?

No open cats, running full exhaust, I drive this car to work every day. I got the headers used for $160 shipped. $100 for the y-pipe, $50 for the cats, $40 for the 98-99 AIR and EGR stuff, $28 for gaskets, clamps and O2 extensions. Plus another $75 for the Stage 8 bolts and some more stainless clamps.

Nice deal man. Just curious though why didn't you make Air/EGR block off plates instead of buying all that crap? I did a write up on it LS1tech last year.
