rear hatch dot matrix
My matrix has air in it and its always an eye sore to me. I read in a post that some people paint the matrix black. I just want to know if anyone has painted their dot matrix and does it come out ok?
I just ordered a NJFBOA hatch sticker and i would like to clean up the matrix while im messing with the hatch anyway.

i painted mine, i used flat black BBQ paint, you need to do a bunch of coats though, i only did one. from outside it looks great but from inside you can see it needs more coats.
ill try to find pics.

I used come exterior car paint i had laying around from when my car was black and in need of a paint job and the body kit was chipping in the front. I cut the tint just below the matrix and taped everything off. took about 3 or 4 coats to get it thick enough so that light would not shine through looking from the inside out. The first coat made it look perfect from the outisde in though. Hatch looks almost perfect - just need my NJFBOA sticker to arrive. I would tell anyone to paint the matrix as it looks perfect now and u cant see the paint from the rear view mirror either.

its simply a pattern of little dots that from a far and due to the fact that they are so close together, give a tinted appearence blocking out some sunlight. i believe only 93-97 camaro have them on the t-tops

the guys that tinted mine got most of the tint to adhere to the dots. just the very upper portion looks like frost or something cause the tint grabbed on the dots but not in between if you get me?

any can of black paint will do - your gona have an easier time matching the black top than the 15% tint. If u wana match the top just get any can of black paint and spray a few coats till its blacked out. If u want to try to match the 15% u can maybe get fomr VHT nightshades (basically black paint with thinner in it) and try to match the tint but id be willing to bet that that will run like crazy esp on glass at that angle.
personally i would have just tinted out the back 5% and painted the matrix black, really clean looking.

I have 5 %on the back and 15% on the sides - there is no difference in the ability to see out of the car from the two diff shades of tint. looking out the sides at 15% is just as dark as looking out the back with 5%. so really tint is tint on the inside and the difference in light allowed through is only changed when looking from the outside in. And the painted part - the matrix- cant be seen from the rear view mirror

I've heard putting a piece of black vinyl over it works great!
