computer hardware geeks - take a look

ok, so i sourced all of my own components and i want to be sure i didn't leave anything out, so check my list:

Motherboard: ECS GeForce7050SM-M V2.0 (7050PV / 2 RAM / 256MB VID / SND / LAN)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ AM2 Dual-Core (2.6GHz / 1MB / HT2 2000FSB)
CPU Fan: Thermaltake CL-P0296 Silent Boost RX K8 Copper CPU Fan
RAM Memory: 2GB 667MHz (2X-1GB) DDR2 PC5300 Dual-Channel RAM Memory
Hard Drive: 320GB 7200RPM SATA2 Hard Disk Drive
Cooling Fan: 2 x Hard Disk Drive Dual-Fan Cooler
Optical Drive: 20X Dual Layer DVD-RW Burner
Video Card: (2x SLI) nVidia GeForce 8600GT 1GB DDR3 PCI Express Video Cards
PC Tower Case: AOPEN Black T600 Nouveau Mid-Tower Case
Power Supply: OKIA 550W BASIC LOAD Power Supply
Case Fan: 2 x Ball Bearing ATX System Cooling CASE FAN
Keyboard & Mouse: Standard Keyboard & OPTICAL Mouse Combo

i think the power supply is ok for this config, and the cooling fans will be sufficient to keep this beast cool. if you disagree with any of my choices, or think that there might be a better option at the price point i am looking at, then by all means chime in and let me know. don't just say that this is a pig and i am stupid, 'cause i won't learn anything by that (and i already know that to be true, so move on)...

thanks for stopping by.

Dunno where you are buying from, but it looks like the case already comes with a 120mm and 90mm fans, I don't see any space for additional fans (unless you're planning on cutting).

Otherwise everything looks good.

couple things i would change:

get the 5200+ instead. its cheaper on some sites (like newegg)

i would also get 800mhz ram instead of the 667.

and do yourself a favor and do NOT get that PSU. it cannot handle what you are going to be running. the power supply is very important casue if you get a crappy one you will destroy your ****. do yourself a big favor and invest a decent amount of money into one.

i recommend

i had heard all three of these from another source, so i will definitely take that into consideration. it's one of those sites where you can "build your own" PC, and i hadn't even considered the fans in the case, but i did want to keep things cool. thanks everyone.

i wouldnt buy that motherboard either...it has onboard video which you dont need/want, and ECS isnt exactly a great brand...ask me how i know

and i agree with everything shane said above

if you can wait til later on tonight i could go over your list of stuff and come up with a similar system thatll be more reliable and possibly cheaper

edit: whats your budget? im gonna start on it now

i got everything picked out except your mouse/keyboard, dunno if you even need that...or what you plan on doing with this machine. but heres the rundown

Quote:
SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model SH-S202J - OEM

$22.99

COOLER MASTER Centurion 534 RC-534-KKN2-GP Black Aluminum & Mesh bezel / SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail

$52.99

Western Digital Caviar SE WD3200AAJS 320GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

$64.99

MSI K9A2 CF-F V2 AM2+/AM2 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

$94.99

Rosewill RP600V2-S-SL 600W SLI Ready-ATX12V V2.01 Power Supply - Retail

$69.99

Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model PDC22G6400ELK - Retail

$43.99

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Brisbane 2.7GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model ADO5200DOBOX - Retail
$77.00

MSI NX8800GT 512M OC GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

$174.99

Subtotal: $601.93
Notice i only went with 1 video card...SLI honestly isnt gonna do much for you, not really worth the extra cost/power it takes to run it. Also with that video card you get a combo deal with another part, not sure which one

edit: also i didnt pick out a CPU cooler. the one that comes with the CPU will be fine unless you plan on overclocking.

edit again: scratch that DVD burner, its IDE, which is basically ancient these days...i'd go with this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151171

Its a samsung 22x SATA burner, only a few dollars more and way faster

looks good, but like its been stated above, go with a bigger power supply. Also ,it looks like you're planning on doing a lot of graphic intensive stuff with the dual video cards. I'd up the RAM if thats the case. Also, spring for a better AMD CPU if you can, I bought the 6400+ last month and love it.
