In the hospital

Last monday and tuesday I had a mild fever 99-99.5
Wednesday I had some bad stomach pain
Thursday it got worse
Friday I came home keeled over and the wife convinced me to go to emergency room.

7:30 pm got there.... had lots of morphine, they checked me out.... mri/cat scan. Conclusion -i have appendigitus and they found a 2 cm by 2 cm mass on my pancreas

Appendigitus is like an appendacitus but no surgery - lots of pain killers, anti inflamatory stuff and rest.

at 2 am they asked me if i wanted to stay overnight or not - i said f that and went home.

sat and sun lots of pain
mon had appt to investigate the mass - got there and pain was WAY worse than fri nite.

The doc had me admitted to valley hospital monday. For the first 22 hrs there I could not have food or water. I get dilodul (pain killer) every 4 hrs, antibiotics, and antiinflamitory meds

I'm hooked up to a battery pack which makes the right amount of meds via iv bags go in me.

Yesterday I was allowed to have "clear" fluids - jello, chicken/beef broth, apple juice, and water.

BP yeswterday was as low as 100 over 50

Had reaction to meds yestarday - nausious/ light headed

Lots of ungodly pain

doc just visitd me and i'm here at least another day..... ugh, bored!

i want FOOD!

Man, that sucks! I'm so glad I've been able to stay somewhat healthy over the years. Last time I was in the hospital was for a pneumothorax which is a collapsed lung. Apparently I had a blister on my lung and it burst and let air out. Sitting in the hospital doing nothing is the worst! Hope everything turns out ok.

He has epiploic appendagitis if anyone wants to look it up. It's basically his intestines that are inflamed causing the pain/sensitivity in the abdomen. James normally has a high pain tolerance, so to be in the hospital, it has to be excruciating.

I'm just glad they have wi-fi available. It's been keeping me semi-sane as well, lol.

I had acute appendicitis last fall - went from my kid's soccer prcatice to the OR in <12 hours. That sucked. I feel your pain, hang in there!

You seem like a very sickly person, James.

With that said, hopefully you can recover soon with no side effects, good luck.

Nah, he's not sickly. His only other real problem is arthritis in his knees. And inner ear damage that causes some dizzy spells on occasion. But this is the first time he's been hospitalized for anything besides major knee surgery (and even then I don't think he stayed over night).

Thanks for all the well wishes guys!

Wow James - sounds like a rough week. Hope you feel better man!

Look on the bright side - at least this trip to the hospital didn't involve setting yourself on fire

I just came home for the night. He's gone for 2 walks - much more than he's been able to do the past week or so. But the walks did cause some of the pain to return. I'd like to see him home tomorrow, but they won't let him go (and he knows he can't go home) until the pain is reasonably manageable with prescription pain killers. So we shall see.

Gene, just cause his ass ain't fallin' out doesn't mean it's just a tummy ache, lol

They aren't willing to operate on it? I mean I don't know all of the facts, but if the thing continues to stay there, aren't you continually going to be sick like you are?
