Need help/advice getting my LT1 back together

So, I tore apart my LT1, and it looks like it'll need a little machine work. Its not ruined, just some wear. So, I'm trying to find the most economical way to finish my project. I figured to machine the block and heads to like-new it would cost me about $400, then add on price of gaskets, seals, etc. I was hoping to find a long or short block for a decent price, but I dont want to spend $1600. I'm wondering if anybody has any good sources, or knows anybody with a low mileage LT1 priced reasonably. Or if anybody knows of a reputable machine shop in the south jersey area I would appreciate it.

Well, I just measured the cylinders and #6 was at 4.004" max, and the max taper on the whole motor was .002". I'm thinking of taking the entire motor over .010" and using new pistons. Also, the crank has a scratch on one of the journals and slight scoring so that would need to be machined. At the very least it would need to be honed. I am considering having the block checked for cracks as well since there was coolant in the oil, but the head gaskets looked pretty bad so I think that may be the problem.

There is an LT1 out of a Imapla SS ( short block intact, heads/intake are off ) for sale in the NE section of CamaroZ28.com for $275 - pick up only: Queens NY.

Honestly, Since you're that far into having the engine apart just rebuild it and you'll know you have good parts and not someone elses headache, or be in the same place in another year with a used engine. Might cost a bit more now, but you'll be better off in the long run.

Below is an older thread that somewhat relates. Few people threw out some prices and things to consider in your plan and budget for the rebuild.

1) Build it

3) Break it
4) Repeat!!!
