Yanks news

Hank Steinbrenner announced today that he will personally take over the personnel decisions starting at the end of the season. He said the team next year will look nothing like the team this year. I read into that that Gerardi and Cashman are gone. I don't understand the Yankees front office mentality. They think that if it's not working at 110% today, fire everybody and see what happens tomorrow. They have a current streak of firing at least 60% of the team every off season for the last six years. What do they expect? It takes time for the players to get comfortable with each other and to know what to expect from each other and for the pitchers to get comfortable with the catchers. With all this crap going on, I can easily see the Yanks falling back into the slump of the '80's. With all the firing and threats, I can see New York once again being a city that players dont want to be traded to.

Not to mention being worried about being fired would make anyone nervous and not play at their best.....

Exactly. Thats precisely what happened in the '80's. George Steinbrenner was a micro manager and had to have his hands in everything. He also liked to insult the players and coaches in the media which really pissed everyone off. Then he goes and gets into fights with the manager at the time, Billy Martin, and the players notice all this, and they get pissed off and discouraged. Then they play like crap and the fans take notice and they get pissed off. If there isnt stability at the top, the crap rolls down hill.

I see the race between the Yanks and Red Sox that really heated up around '02 like the cold war. You have two sides that are in direct competition with one another, and in the end, only one can win. The Yanks hired Cashman to be their General. And the Sox hired that young guy (I forget his name). It was an arms race to get the best players. Well, the Sox won in the end. Cashaman has grenaded the Yankees. He overpays dinosaur players that are in the end of their career, has no idea what so ever on how to scout pitchers, trades great players away for injury prone ones, and when the crap hit the fan, it was blame Torre time and they insulted the crap out of him after last season and we know what happened after that. Meanwhile, the Sox are making amazing trades and deals, like getting Beckett, Matsuzaka, Papelbon, etc. The problem with the Yanks isnt the players, its the suit wearing decision makers that suck at making decisions.

LOL, I was just reading the post oneline and saw ths comment:

Quote:
This will be worse than letting Joe go. Cash is in the process of building the team for the future. Now you have Thanks Dad Steinbrenner, who couldn't run a fantasy team, wanting to be the man. He's to the Yankees what Dolan is to the Knicks!
We'll see, HS seems to be a lot of talk and no action.

I guess Hank will be focusing more on the front office side then. By saying "I'm going to personally be the one that makes the new personnel calls, and nobody else" to me says bye bye Cashman because thats Cashman's job.

the worse part of being a yank fan is seeing the hated mets doing better then them. this season surely sucked. after the all-star break things looked good then they bottomed out. time for change. i'd hate to fall back to being like the team was in the 80's

I wouldn't be so sure. He's already had 2 significant injuries and only had 2 good outings in his career thus far (which consists of a handful of games): last year when he was pitching a no hitter (when he pulled his hammy), and that game against Cleveland in the playoffs...definitely not enough to prove the hype that has surrounded him.
