Thinking about Army ROTC

I live in Florida now, as most of you know, but thats besides the point.

Here at UCF they have an Army ROTC program designed to have you graduate with a military science degree, full scholarship for the remainder of my college, and 4 years of commited service active or inactive. (I'd do active)

What do you guys think about this?

Anyone done it before?

It really sells itself, and thats what I'm worried about. To graduate as a Lt. offers all the bells and whistles, great benefits and great pay.

Anyone has any opinions, I'd love to hear them.

It is a good way to pay for school and get the leadership experience that employers want, just don't lose sight of the fact that you may end up in combat.
Hopefully your major lends itself to something that will leave you well out of the way of danger.

I don't think its a bad deal at all. They offer a great deal for full loan reimbursement if you take the commission as an officer. Just make sure you work hard in ROTC & when you go to OCS because that plays a huge roll in what MOS you get to pick.

I'm pretty much doing the same thing but through the alternative route with the Marine Corp. When one of my friends was enlisting I asked about officer training because I knew that's what it took to fly and that's what I wanted. They set me up with the Marine Corp Officer Selection program, but the only catch is you don't regularly train with them.

as far as avoiding combat... I'm learning Arabic, have good asvab scores, high SAT, and i'm taking intelligence classes come junior/senior year..

I'm confident i'll get into intelligence if I aim for it.

(i took time off in between highschool/college so i got a bit of a late start)

its a very sweet deal OCS and in what you are taking you will no doubt be in high demand for the next 20 years and promotions will be offered often - if your interest lies in staying in the service you would be in a cat bird seat with 101ST Airborne patch on your sleave, i also served in the 101st would not trade that for another day alive - its a very good gig good luck to you and God speed -- jz
