NFL FANS
whats your opinion about the way the nfl goes about overtime games? do you think the coin flip is a fair way or do you think they should revise the rules and do like college teams play overtime. i think the coin flip blows!
i like the way college ball is done in overtime. just seems more fair to each have a chance in ot.
damn jets

i like the college format better, BUT it should involve kickoffs. its not right that they start the teams in field goal range and your defence can stop them 3 times and they just kick it.
it should be a kick off, then chance to score, if you score, you kick off and they have to score to tie it again.
sudden death is no fun when you only have to get to the 40 to kick a field goal

I like the college way a lot better, but I agree, putting them in field goal range right off the bat is too close. I don't think a kick off is the best idea though, as it can easily take some games an hour or more for anybody to score. I'd say put em at the 50 yard line.

just make it an extra 10 minute period. Game ends on whatever the score is at the end. Which means there can be ties.

I like the idea of running as Mike suggested.
It should have an opening kick off like any other period of play and be equal possession. The way the NFL runs the show, whoever gets the balls first wins nearly every time.
If the team that gets the ball at the beginning scores, the opposing team deserves an attempt to respond. It would also make the game more exciting because their hand would be forced more into going for a touchdown instead of just kicking the field goal on whatever down they happen to get with in range.

Haha, a little bothered by last night's game bill?
but yeah, there should be a better way to decide OT.. It really just comes down to the coin toss

I say still do the coin flip and kickoff. Which ever team scores first it becomes the bottom of the ninth for the opposing team to score and win. May not be the fairest solution, but hey, life isn't fair.

YES VERY MUCH SO
each team should get a chance to score. so many ot games end w/o one team ever getting the ball. i know, just play defense and you'll get the ball back but..the way college does it is better imo. after the 2nd ot if you score a td you must go for the 2 point conversion.

According to the numbers, the team that wins the toss in OT only have like a 5% better chance of winning...I'd still say that that is so close that the way OT is decided is fair. I actually thought the data would show how unfair OT is because it feels that way, but the math shows it's actually a pretty fair system in the NFL.

although that article is 5 years old thats what i found interesting, the numbers do make it seem like it's a fair system. winning the coin toss and driving down and winning only happened 28% of the time. i need to find some more up to date numbers.

rofl i guess you guys forget the matt hasslebeck overtime moment. ''WE WANT THE BALL AND WERE GONNA SCORE!'' Al harris grabbed an easy slant for a pick six on the opening OT drive.
Defense wins championships. I think they should keep the same format they use at the moment but field goals should not be allowed to be attempted during OT. only a touchdown wins it is how it should be
