The pictures from Afghanistan are incredible! I'm actually applying for Combat Camera with the Marines, I hear its one of the toughest classes to get in, you spend 6 months in Japan from my understanding. Only thing that sucks is before you can show pictures they have to be cleared since they are automatically considered classified. Awesome stuff!

Do you have to go through basic training to do that stuff? you dont get equiped with a weapon do you?

Every Marine is a rifleman, first and foremost. So yes, he will go through boot or the officer's school. will he be packing while deployed? beats me.

I'm not sure if they actually pack but I don't see why they wouldn't have a pistol & rifle close by, I know I sure as hell would at least have a sidearm. There is a guy on the Canon Photography forums who posts once in a blue moon who is currently deployed in Iraq.
