problems with the trans am cont.

i pulled the iac motor off and here is what it looks like



the gasket appears to be bad, and when i took it off i saw smoke coming out of the hole where the iac went into place

Yep! You need to take out the valve shown in this picture. A new one runs around $30.

No, an electric motor moves it in and out to adjust idle. Try cleaning the end of really well with carb cleaner if it's all gunked up. It might be getting stuck which could be causing your problem.

i would consider just replacing it and cleaning carbon build up in the throttle body

okay thanks alex. now the guy at the parts place thinks it might be a bad injector. he thinks when it gets hot it stays open and when i shut it off it floods the cylinder. he doesnt think that its the IAC because when it starts up when its hot it would be running very high rpm's.

Well thats an easy test, check to see if the rails lose pressure really quickly. Although I doubt its an injector.
