LT1 Opti Conversion Non vented to vented
What do I need to convert a non vented opti spark on a 93 block to a vented opti spark for a 95 timing cover?

you need the later timing cover, a 95+ cam (longer dowel pin), vented opti with vacuum harness, and i believe the timing chain/components. not positive on the last part.

You will need to put a hole in the intake elbow and a 90* vacuum line connector for that.
I don't think the timing chain would be different. Its the same part number for years 92-97

its hard to find actual proof that the vented opti is more reliable. I could assume that it would be allowing internal ozone and moisture to escape.
The price of a vented opti is significantly cheaper, but does it outweigh the price and labor of the conversion?

the main thing to do is an electric waterpump and seal the openings for the drive and weep hole.

If he has no opti now, I would say its most def worth going vented.
But you need as stated above, longer cam dowel, vented opti, lines with flow reducers, newer PCM, and new timing cover.

I've seen the non vented last longer than the vented so I think the venting allowed more moisture problems somehow(probably when the car was sitting). I'm not sure it's really worth it unless you already have it torn apart now.

Vented opti could mean newer PCM and much more tuning options.

You have stupercharged in you username? If you have or plan to use boost then you need to modify the vacuum line with a check valve into the vaccum side and a seperate filter on the innlet side so that boost pressure isn't allowed to go back into the opti. Boost pressure into the opti will distort and damage the Optical wheel.

* Part numbers for stock chain, can also use LT4, extreem duty or aftermarket TC sets such as Summit.
The longer drive pins can be bought from GM. Sorry, I can't locate that part number. Lingenfelter also sells them, or use too. you do not need to change the cam, 92-93 LT1 cams work with 94+ opti drives, only hte drive pin needs to be changed.

Stock 93 LT1

95+ aftermarket

Side by side, 95 on the left stock 93 on the right.

Another side by side.

As you can see the 93 cam has a taper and a very short hole. The 95+ has a straight deep hole.

No no no the car is a 1994 the engine is a 1993 the harness and pcm are all 1994
