Thanks a lot UPS!!! VERY SARCASTIC

Ordered a simple brake caliper paint kit from a online vendor. UPS indicated delivery to the correct address today. I come home....nothing to be found anywhere. My house is very offset from the road and I really doubt anyone would come and swipe anything. I contacted UPS and all they can tell me is to contact the shipper since they authorized release.

I contact the vendor and he tells me to keep looking and that I said the item could be left at my door. I did indicate this however it's still at the shippers discretion to waive a signature. Bottom line, I'm pissed and I really don't see how I will get anything out of this.

Who did you buy it from? This is the plus of buying from say a place like summit. Ya just call up and say "Yeah really your not gonna do anything? I think I'll just go spend my thousands a year and JEGS" and their attitude suddenly changes.

If a package was left by UPS I believe it is their obligation to leave you a tag that says where the object was placed and what time it was dropped off. I know my UPS guy personally and the only time he doesnt do so is when he signs the packages for me and puts them in my back yard.

Bought it from Gremlyn's Garage who is a well known vendor to the GTO/G8 community. Mainly sells HID kits and other small accessories so it is prob. one of those one man companies. Regardless, if he is not willing to help me out, I will certainly inform him that I will be taking my business elsewhere considering the lack of help with a $33 product.

UPS did not leave a slip anywhere. Are you sure they are obligated? Thanks.

I've been through this with UPS a few times because kids DO steal my stuff off my front porch while walking home from school... Keep reporting back to the vendor that you have not received your package. I would assume you paid by credit card? Contact your credit card that you have not received the package and the vendor is not willing to help. You want your money back. Usually the credit card company will help you especially Amex-- They're the best when it comes to this stuff.

They're not, they only leave a slip if signature upon delivery is required and you're not home. If they have instructions to leave it on the front steps they leave it and they're on their merry way...at least that's what they do around here. I think R0nin's case is different since he knows the UPS guy well I've never received a slip the countless times I've had them leave packages at my apartment door.

I really wouldn't fault the vendor, after he ships the product it's really no longer his problem however for such a small $$ amount you'd think he'd ship out another one in good faith.

it's UPS's responsibility. they can't just drop something off without first trying to conceal it - assuming no one is home, of course. i've had UPS just drop stuff on my doorstep while i was home. since they are doing the shipping and they are in such a GD hurry all of the time that they can't even knock on the door to let you know they dropped something off, i would hold them responsible. talk with as many people in the customer service department that you can (don't forget to note the call and who you spoke with) and ask to speak with supervisors, etc, until you get satisfaction from them. that's what i would do.

p.s. don't think they don't have this down to a science. the number of claims they receive are outnumbered by the number of minutes they save by having the driver just drop and go.

Their out is probably going to be that they were instructed to leave it on the front steps.

every package the vendor ships is covered by UPS for 100.00 standard insurance if lost. unless the package was sent collect, you paying shipping, the vendor is responable. normally UPS will conduct an investagtion...ask the driver to return to the delivery spot to confirm it was delievered to the correct address. I've had packages miss-delivered and the driver has been able to retrevee it and deliver to the correct location. If you have asked you neighbours with on luck, the shipper is obligated to do right and bill UPS for the lost package...I know this as my company ships about 60 pakages as day with UPS. UPS is still way better than Fed Ex and the former DHL.....who pretty much tossed packages out the door in front of the house

Paid through Paypal so that will prob. be a dead end getting any money back.

I will be banging on UPS's door consistently until I get a better answer than it was delivered. I know this situation will probably leave me out the money but I don't think it's right for someone to leave a package in plain sight to be taken. Fing people

If the vendor didnt have insurance on the product then its not ups fault. Been through with my work. We lost over 10000 dollars worth of parts we made and my boss never got insurace. We never got anything back. They were animal sprockets so i gurantee someone working at ups took them. I would keep calling the vendor or find out if he has it insured, if so then keep calling ups.

UPS continues to wipe its hands clean at this moment. Everytime I call, they tell me the shipper needs to initiate an investigation. They won't allow me to do it. Really ridiculous.

On a funny note, if it was stolen, they may be a bit confused when they see they got some orange paint lol.

In a way they're right...you didn't purchase the shipping..the seller/shipper did.

Like the other response said, packages are insured for $100 unless a higher amount is specified.

they'd be pissing in the wind if i were the client. while i might have said leave it, i would never say leave it on the front step. in my neighborhood if it isn't nailed down, it's walking. i would tell them to put it behind my car. then only my neighbor (whom i trust) and i would know it was there. been fairly successful with it, too.

but the issue is still that somehow UPS has gotten into this habit in the residential sector. it's like we don't even matter, when we probably make up a decent percentage of their business. it's that they've studied it and realized that the money they save by keeping the drivers moving as opposed to standing on someone's doorstep ringing the bell and then filling out a little slip of paper saying "Sorry we missed you..." since they've studied it and are always the first to try to push the responsibility on someone else, the normal person who is out the bucks usually quits in frustration. that kind of stuff gets me motivated as opposed to wanting to quit. but, then again, i am far from normal.

in the meantime, the OP should be contacting the person who he bought the piece from and have them call and start the investigation. if UPS is going to dictate what needs to be done, then by all means follow through with it. make sure it's being done in a timely fashion, too. it shouldn't take them a week to find out what happened to your package, if that.

The problem is blackbird isn't their client, the company he purchased the paint through is their client.

I agree with you though.

no insurance pretty much means your effed. i'd call everyone involved in the transaction and complain and ask for special people and complain to them. it usually helps a little.

You can deny charges through paypal FYI. That will get the ball rolling with the vendor who will then have a reason of his own to take it up with UPS.

That will be my end all step if the vendor does not want to cooperate. Again, this is only $33 but I'm more into the principle of it all than anything else. Thanks for everyones input. I will def. post the outcome.

IMO even though it sounds rude, you really have no right to drag the vendor into this. This is a UPS matter and should be dealt with as such.

yea, I say contact the vendor. as I said before the standard insurance for every package UPS handles is 100.00. the vendor should reship your order and the vendor should submit the claim with UPS for the lost or stolen package. that's it. UPS will only act on the vendors request as they are the shipper and paying the freight.

a lot of people blaming ups, how do we know the vendor didn't type-o on the address and its a couple houses away? that wouldn't be ups's fault and that's why they need the vendor to be the one to contact them.

brian, after calling the vendor you might want to take a walk and ask a couple neighbors

I agree with you but if he is unwilling to authorize the investigation with UPS then I will need to take other actions.

Email delivery confirmation has the right address. I actually walked down the block on Friday and asked a few of the close neighbors. Even scoped out some peoples front porches LOL.

You can! Thats the easiest! Start a dispute that you never got the package!!

It should be the vendor's responsibility to fight UPS since they chose to ship with them. They shouldn't leave you hanging if they are a reputable business. I know at work when we ship Parts, if the customer doesn't get them, we are responsible to figure out why.
