LS9 Crate motor

Beginning in fall 2009, the stuffed and supercharged LS9 engine will be available as a crate motor ready to tackle the street or track. With more than 630 horsepower, the LS9 is the most powerful engine GM has ever produced.

there was word circulating that a guy has already dropped a stroker in his camaro. this is the next logical step. you know someone is doing it or has plans to do it, just to say it can be done.

I'm pretty sure that it is the most powerful mass-produced engine that they have ever made. Can't think of anything rated any higher.

Might be some one-off type things that were higher, but nothing production.

The 1970 LS6 was rated a conservative 450 HP for certian reasons but it was more like 650 HP, and they were installed in more than 4,000 1970 chevelles. The only other motor that might come close is the all aluminum 1969 ZL1 427.Im not sure what the HP was.

Original post did not mention that the engine had to have an RPO code associated with it. Matters not. ZZ572 is the big dog.

There's a copy of the ZL1 dyno test somewhere on the web. I forget the actual numbers but I know it picked up 80hp when they disconnected the stock exhaust, and the 430hp number was reached by shutting the dyno off early.

Also, do not confuse Gross vs. Net HP... LS6 was 450hp gross.
