Computor problem 11ty billion and one

So I think I got myself a virus... what I get for not buying the new KSE album...

I am running the free AVG now.. but basically after like 15 minutes or so, my laptop freezes up, mouse can move around but not click anything. Restart it, and its like nothing happened.

Any good anti virus programs to look into?

How old is the PC/laptop? Can you do a CTL+ALT-DEL when it happens and see your process list?

Its hard to get a virus from an MP3 file. anything that is .exe is probably what will do it. Either that or its just a windows software problem or something is overheating hardware wise

Grr.... I hate technology... everything runs slow as hell... 61% CPU usage just running firefox and then back down to 9%....

Downloaded tune up utilities, worked last night, seemed like everything was good... fast foward to today... I can browse the web and stuff, but its like dial up speeds... programs run slow, web pages load incredibly slow etc.

I may say **** it, and re load XP on it... I really hate this.

Could potentially be a HW issue, hence the reason I was asking the age. I have a tablet that I was using as a desktop and in the heat of my room it would lock up, sometimes after only a few minutes of use. IIRC I could still move the mouse but I couldnt click on anything
