thinking about getting a quad...
...peer pressure is a b*tch... lol
ok well maybe it wasn't really peer pressure, but last night my good friend suggested that i get a quad so that when we're both back in Ft Drum NY, we can go wheeling after work and on weekends. I had thought about getting one in the past but since you cant register them on the roads and no where to ride in my old area on NJ, i never did. He has a trailer that can fit 4-5 and also is from my area in NJ. I had recently thought about getting a dirt bike since the harley deal went south. F you HD. Anyways, i was thinking about a dual sport bike so i could still go on the street, but i dunno, quads do sound fun. A bunch of my friends were into them right before i enlisted and i never got a chance to enjoy the hobby/sport.
now, if i did get a quad, i am not sure what id look into, 2 or 4 wheel drive even. I'd want something fast is what matters, haha, and NOT new, i nice ride from like 2001-2002 would be prefect, piped would be a plus. so id now be looking used, where do i look? whats a decent price range?
give me some info... im looking to learn.... haha

i love quads. i got talked into getting one and im glad i did. one thing nice about a quad over a bike is when winter hits you can still have fun riding without worrying to much of wiping out in the snow lol

yea, and ive done the bike thing, sportbikes though, im over it, lol.
i was thinking a banshee or raptor, 2wd aint too bad right? you can still have fun on established trails. my other friend had a honda 400ex?(dont quote me, it was 6 years ago) and had like 28" tires on it, with a lift and all, crazy stuff but def not my type.

I went from a street bike to the ATVs. I had three of them, so my family could ride together. Between trailering them to the nearest trail, cleaning them, and fixing them I spent more time off them then on. If you have a legal trial to ride on near where you live it isn't a bad deal. but I had to tow them 45 minutes into PA to ride legally so it was a pain. After having them for two years I sold them. They were fun once you were on them but a pain in the arse to get there.

you can find some good deals on craigs list. i would suggest 2wd sport if your lookin for speed. a good price for a used 2000 and newer, i would say, would be about $4000- $6000, if you want speed i wouldent go under a 350cc.

Yeah upstate has lots more trails then NJ.
If you plan on riding in the snow you might want to think about 4 wheel drive. Anything more than 4 inches of snow and it was a slip n' slide.

as fast and nice as a banshee might seem they are much more work due to there two strokeness. i think the best thing for you is prolly the polaris outlaw since its independent suspension. raptor 660's can usually be picked up for pretty cheap and they are fast

If you friends are all on quads get a quad youll never be able to keep up on a bike on some of the terrain, I would go with a 400 ex or something like that but Im kinda partial to the hondas, they run forever.

ill have to ask my friend about if they actually ride in the snow, up there, each storm dumps 1-2 feet so at those amounts i think even a 4wd quad would get stuck quick, lol

They are a pain to get places, but they are fun too. I think they are a lot more fun than dirt bikes. Esp a powerful 2 stroke like a banshee. Ive had a yamaha warrior 350 too and that was a blast, lots of torque, but still seemed kinda underpowered. Raptor would def be the best of both worlds

def look into a 450. yfz, kawi, suzuki, or honda. 450 makes sick power and you dont have to deal with the 2 stroke crap. I LOVED my yfz 450. Pissed on everything with a few simple mods. And reliable as hell!
