so i got 2 tickets today

i got my first 2 tickets today. i picked up 3 of my friends from kean and i was leaving the parking lot and i was doing 25-30 ish. and as i left i got pulled over. 4-5 cops ended up behind me for no reason.

i got 2 tickets for this
the first is for still being on my Provisional Statue No. 39:3-13.8b

second one for careless driving Statue no. 39:4-97

Since i have never gotten a ticket before i dont really know what to do or expect. any advice will be appreciated

Expect to pay a lot more in insurance. They will probably consider you a high risk driver. I went throught that many years ago and went from paying $1200 a year to $3400 a year for the next 3 years.

jurisdiction? were they kean cops? union county cops? you were doing 25-30 in the kean parking lot?

if by the first offense you mean staying out after hours on your provisional its a 0 point ticket but its like 100 bucks.

The court appearance should be mandatory for a careless. At your court date, go in and sit down, they will ask if anyone wants to talk to the prosecutor. He will offer to drop the points for a bigger fine. Expect to pay close to $400 all together.

This is what I went through with a careless, your situation and fine may be different. I had no points at the time and wanted to keep it that way so paid the extra thinking the insurance would not increase with no points. It went up anyway. If I were to do it all again I would have just taken the pints and put the money I paid to get out of them towards the insurance increase. Just my opinion.

thats not always the case...when i went in for my speeding ticket the prosecutor must have been having a bad day and wouldnt let me plead for that.

Maybe he just didn't like you.

I have gotten out of all my court required appearance tickets. And my insurance has not gone up at all, IMO worth the extra court fees.

Its his first ticket and he is young, they usually give you a deal. But like I said, his fine may be different from my experience.

if this is your first time go there and ask the prosecutor if he can help you...if he refuses like he did with madness then the judge will offer to defer this with the NJ UNSAFE DRIVING STATUTE. you tell the judge you were driving and operating unsafely and wish to plead guilty to that. its no points but a big fine. its worth it. i think you can use it like 2 or 3 times within a certain amount of time.

i still don't understand why he pulled you over. and what did he write those particular tickets (careless driving)? either you're not giving all of the info or the cop was having a bad day and took it out on you.

nobody in the car was 25? do you have any friends 25 or older that might have been in the car with you? like maybe in the passenger seat? not sure what the provisional license statutes are, like dawn to dusk or whatever.

The rules for a provisional license are, no out of state driving, no more than one passenger in the car (unless it is family, then any number is allowed.) Certain time restrictions apply also.

How ?

I went to court plead my case, got the one two point down to a no point, paid the crazy fees, and then last 5 point offense I got knocked down to a 2 point. Just gotta pay the fines.

As far as insurance, I dunno, the last offense I told the insurance I was doing the work myself. The first one, I don't think they know about.

Me ftw.

Bah, you fail at interpretation, I meant getting out of the ticket I earned.

when I got the careless a court appearance was required. I dont think going to court and paying fines to reduce a ticket is "getting out of a ticket".

It is when the ticket is 5 points and you walk out of court with a completely different and much lesser ticket.
