LCD Monitor issue....

I have a viewsonic 22" monitor that I haven't used in about a year, it sat in storage for a good amount of time (so yes, it was exposed to temperature extremes, but not elements), and finally just went to hook it back up on an imac that I've never used it on and colors show up fine, but it looks like blacks are not, they show up as lines that make it look almost like a negative image.. any ideas? is the monitor messed up or possibly just a connection?

Did you let it warm up before turning it on?

They beat me too it as well. I've seen all too many times someone tries to use a piece of computer equipment without letting it warm up. Especially bad for HDDs.

But, try maybe hooking it up to a PC that has just a DVI or VGA and see if it works.

I think it's revolting against being attached to an apple product

It must have been plotting a long time that's all I've ever used it on. I need to locate a pc or another mac with standard dvi now

Yeah, I've ice packed them before as well. In most cases the hardware was a lost cause anyway so why not?

My last job we had 2 servers that were on a sand dredge, they were what the barge ran off of. Every night they were shut down and were frozen every winter for years before I even started there. They had mobo problems and BIOS battery issues but no HDD issues from cold

I've ruined HDDs by having them be expose to extreme cold and then trying to start it up while its still cold (not thinking about it). My sister just did it to her netbook. I know about the method of icing, etc. but it seemed to have messed up the HDD.

i moved.. and it kept getting put to the bottom of my list of things to do. ill go out and get another DVI cable today, hopefully thatll fix it. really doesnt look like its a color issue, bad signal seems most obvious. It'll be nice to have 2 22" monitors now
