New DD
Hey boneheads!
I'm finally settling in the new house (which is why I haven't been around) and bought a new DD; a black 2006 Impala SS.
Being an old-ish dude, I was reluctant of the idea of anything FWD that was called SS, but I have to admit, it's pretty freakin' cool!
It sports an LS4 rated at 303 hp and about 350 ft/lb. It torque-steers like crazy when you mash on it (I almost put it into the median pulling out of the dealership on 22), but if you keep both hands on the wheel, it will really boogie! Also, the fact that it is LOADED with leather, heated seats XM, etc etc, doesn't suck either.
It is a bit ordinary-looking, but that is what us old guys used to call "sleeper" and besides, my wife digs the cop car vibe (she wants to put on steelies and tints).
I will post pics soon, but to give you an idea, it looks exactly like this:
I might go retro and replace all the emblems with the old style flags and vees off the early 60s Impalas. What do you guys think?

TPI Monte SS might come steal it, watch out. Congrats on the new purchase! I would leave the badges as is though.

Keep the badges, but change the rims.

Good luck with the new ride, I like it. They make a killer turbo kit for those btw!

Got it from Multi in Union.
So it's pretty much unanimous on the badges. Not saying I'll leave them, but your opinions have been duly noted.
This cat put a '61 quarter emblem in place of the gold bowtie on the back. I think it looks okay, although it might look better in place of the donkey ovals on the sail panel (since they were originally quarter emblems anyway).
Also note the small block fender flags. I wouldn't do that, only because I remember those tiny flags being a sign of shame, not pride... kinda makes me think, "blah, at least it's not a 6."

I was looking at one of these a while back when my firebird was starting to die, really nice cars and pretty cheap to get power out of

Agreed, though I prefer the 2-door version (Monte Carlo SS).

Thanks, all.
Yeah, pretty good price. Not bargain basement, but not bad from dealer. It was a "red tag" special, so I basically went in with the hard line and said, "I'd like to give you $XXXXX in cash, all in, and drive it home today." He went to talk to manager and came back with a purchase agreement. Two hrs later (after they had it detailed), I drove it home.
From what I've read, internal parts are pretty much the same as other LSx motors, exc the crank nose is shorter b/c the accessory drive is different. This is mostly the wife's car, though (I have my truck), so other than maybe wheels, it will probably stay stock. Maybe CAI/exhaust/tune for MPG, but maybe not even that since this trans can't handle any more mustard than the ls4 already makes.
