The first time I did that was by accident. Flat out on a lake in upstate NY. I thought the snow had blown off the ice...wrong! About 80-100' of unfrozen lake.

I read about at least one death a year related to people doing that on the lake. Both spots are within a minute of my parents house.

Yup. I grew up there and there was always someone going through the ice with the sled or ATV. Didn't stop me and my friends from riding our mopeds on it though. Just have to watch out for those black ice patches damn that is too slick to stay up.
