Summit Exhaust System, fully welded mufflers

I took the plunge earlier this week. I bought their 3" aluminized header back dual system for my Nova:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-680102

With the 10% off and the house brand discount it ran me only $200. Granted I wasn't expecting to get a polished Corsa for that amount, but the system looks worth every penny. Nice mandrel bends, nice tubing. Feedback on other sites is very positive.

The mufflers themselves are definetly white box versions of some type of performance muffler (dynomax)? Either way, they should sound pretty decent considering that some of the flow gets a straight shot through:

In a muffler test here's how they performed:

The Mufflers

I had the Summit 3" turbo mufflers on the SS396. They sounded great with a nice rumble but not too loud to talk in the car while on the highway with the windows open. It felt like the car picked up a lot of power going from the 2-1/4 to the 3" dual exhaust. I think the Summit mufflers are Dynomax.

Yea, I just put a Dynomax Super-Turbo catback on my Cherokee, and the supplied muffler looks quite a bit like what you have pictured.

Update:

I haven't run the pipes all the way to the back yet, so there is a lot of resonance under the car. But it is very loud. Sounds almost exactly the same as an open exhaust with dynomax bullets.

You heard my 396 with the normal Summit turbo mufflers and it had a nice rumble at idle but was not bad at all while cruising on the highway at speed. Tailpipes might make a big difference, but I thought the Summit mufflers were Dynomax blems so they should be similar. Don't judge without tailpipes though.

Yeah, I'll get a sound clip once it's all done.

Probably, but it wouldn't fit the greatest.

I finally got it all on there. The tailpipes kill some of the in-cabin noise, and it's fairly mellow at idle. From 2500 RPM up it's loud. Loud enough to get the neighbors a quarter mile away to stop by to say hi.

The only mod I had to do was shorten the passenger side pipe by 3". Probably due to header variances, but it was easy. Other than that it was a bolt on.

Short answer is no. you have legal issues with the cat and the tail pipes will not work, so you'd have to dump in front of the axle, also will fail inspection.

Forgot about the coil springs. Yeah, it probably won't work.

Bonzo once it stops being so cold out I'll blast your headers and get em back to you.

Next time I am there I will. FWIW the mufflers look like Walker Sound FX mufflers from the outside at least. Spot welds even look like they are in the same place. I'd have to see the internals of the Walker muffler though.

I tried Summit headers and had fitment issues against the block on the one side, sent them back then the next set had the collector pointed at an odd angle, sent those back and the third set had fitment issues against the block. Ended up with Headman Headers and the first set went in perfect. Sometimes saving a few bucks works sometimes it costs you more in other ways.
