Student Credit Card? help please?
ok so we can all agree that its important to build/ establish credit correct?
heres the deal...i have NO credit history.. ive never had a card.. i DO have a subsidized student loan for 2700 but i dont pay that back till i graduate (prob pay it back before then)
so ive been googling like student credit cards and bad/no credit cards.. some of which have like 23.9 apr
i mean honestly my plan is to pay in full my balance every pay cycle and not pay intrest.. but what do you guys think i should do?
do you guys know any student credit card or bad credit/ no credit cards that i would be likely to get approved for? or any info or suggestions on anything?
any feedback is appreciated.

How about a department store or something. I started out with an Old Navy card. If you plan on paying your whole bill then I wouldnt worry about the intrest. I wolnt even use a credit card unless I have the cash to pay it off right then and there, or of course emergencies.

I started with a capital one student card. It was a high APR, but like you said, i paid it off every month. AFTER college I started to be a little broke and was paying it off less and less, before i knew it, it was outrageous. I just FINALLY paid off both of my credit cards yesterday, it took about 2 years to pay down completely. Moral of the story: be careful. As far as I know my credit is still wonderful though.

If you get a credit card, just do it to get your credit score up. Meaning, have the cash for what you want to purchase but just use the card so you get credit for it. I had a few and its amazing what kind of limits they give you with a good credit score! But they can get you in a lot of trouble, I know I've been there. Im not saying you are or will be irresponsible, Im just saying be careful.

I'm not gonna charge if I don't have the money... The only problem I have is I did apply over the summer last year to BOA and first I was preapproved then I got denied -_- yeahh I know.. But anyways its prob cause back in like may 08 I got into a car accident and long story short I had a bill that my insurance was supposed to pay annd it ended up going to collections... I had to pay it thru collections back in april 09 (yeah awhile after). But I'm sure if anything that's what kept me from getting it... And now I'm worried it will prevent me again.. But I think the best thing to do is make a few payements on my subsidized loan..even tho I don't have to.. Then wait til I'm 21 and try to apply again.. Worse comes to worse ill have to try that secured credit card that takes a year to turn into a real credit card...

I have a Chase/Visa credit card since I have a savings account there I was able to convince them 3 years ago to give me a card, and I pointed out that I could use the savings account money if they really were nervous. They gave me a $300 limit and no interest for 6 months, but went up very fast once they saw I kept paying it off. I now have that and Capital One to try and build up more credit.

Yes, I went into there and went to speak with one of the managers. Feel free to use my tactic of telling them low limit, backed by savings account.

I started this way:
My mother was going to purchase me a laptop for my birthday, so i mentioned lets cosign for a best buy credit card, and put the laptop on the card. and She agreed to cover the payments instead of out-right buying the laptop, giving me a good starters credit =]

I got a Citi card for students when I was a freshman. Its funny you posted this because I just got an offer in my email to refer some friends. If you send me your email I can send you the referral. I started out with like a $900 balance with this card and a 13.45% apr and it has actually went down a little bit. You get pretty good perks for being a student and the rewards points are decent. I have had it for about 2 years and they have raised my limit several times. Let me know if you want, PM me your email and I can email you the referral.

I started with a secured card. Got one from Orchard Bank (HSBC), you put a security deposit up front and that becomes your credit limit. When you build enough credit to get a real card close the account and they give your deposit back + interest. I used my card for about a year and a half before I was able to get a decent credit card.

Dude just get a target card and use it to build your credit. I went form an Old Navy card with 3 purchases on it to a $7000 dollar jet ski finance in about 8 months.

Bold = me, but w/ a lot more in student loans, I just got a chase/visa card through Amazon. I figure why not, I do enough shopping there, it has reward pts, etc. and they started me with a $400 limit. Honestly, I don't need anything more than that. I'm going to put weekly groceries on it when I'm at school and it'll be set up for auto-pay as soon as I can set up the online acct.

I have three student credit cards, im planning on finally getting a buisness credit card. Lately I've been using them a lot but I pay the full balance every month. Like everyone said their good as long as you don't get out of control. I use them to buy equipment for my company. Try getting a citibank card, I got one real easy, all the others were hard to get.

I know capital one offers a Visa specifically for students. Starts off with like a $250 limit. Would be worth it to apply for something like that. Just make sure you get something with no annual fees.

OK related question if anyone knows the answer chime in...
i have a federal student loan (subsidized) which means the govt. pays the intrest untill 6 months after i graduate.. if i pay the entire principle before i apply for this student card would it help hurt or not affect the chances of being approved
and also do you think id have a better chance of getting aproved for the 14.xx apr BOA card or the 23.xx APR capital one card?
either way like i said i would be paying the entire balance, i believe dont spend it if you dont got it.. anyone? anyone?

I don't think you should worry about your loan, I am not sure how it shows up on your credit report being that you don't start paying it right away. But I have the same loan as you do and I was able to get a credit card fine. I recommend using Citi's Student Card, I haven't had any complaints over the past 2 or 3 years that I have had it.
