I usually see premature steering/suspension and tire wear with them. The big wheels aren't helping much and they don't have factory grease fittings. Pretty much a typical american car IMO, falls apart at 100k and goes another 50k. What motor you looking at?

as long as you stay proactive on vehicle checks and maintanence like every car im sure it will last.
But as what to look for when you buy one just ask if you can have a dealership look at first. May spend an hour labor but it may be worth it. Had a customer recently who picked up an x5 at a used lot brought it to me. Between every thing i found it was about 8 grand in repairs from everything from electrical, leaks, suspension issues to tires.
But from my personel experience with them i rarely seen them come into the last two shops i worked out.

I have an 08 R/T. Has 37k miles on it. It has been nothing but good to me. Car went 13.5x bone stock so I really could not complain. I just went to Ocean City Maryland and back, got 28 MPG even with the Diablo tune it has now. Only problem I know that they have is ball joints go and axle seals leak.

Like Adam said, seems to be hard on steering parts, namely outer tie rods.
Overall, not bad cars, but may I suggest...

well unless the pontiac can be found at a reasonable price like the charger thats out of the question, chargers are far more common and, as much as i am pro gm, for some reason i find myself really wanting a charger. I have seen a few for about 20 grand with low miles so thats a perfect price range for me. I doubt I'll find a used SRT for a decent price so ill probably just stick to the R/T since they have the same motors as the rumble bees, and my dad has one and its got some balls.

Made from '04-'07. Came with the LS6 in '04 & '05, and the LS2 in '06 & '07. 400hp, 6-speed manual T56 trans, Brembo brakes, & luxury interior. They're selling for between $13,000 for the higher mileage, earlier years to low-$20ks for the later/lower mileage cars.
In every which way, a better car than the Charger and something you should look into before purchasing your next vehicle.

Lot of nice G8's in your price range. You will not need a GXP to keep up with the SRT boys. 2 mods and I was running 12.9 @ 109 if that matters to you. Everything is subjective and personal preference of course. These cars are priced pretty well and there are usually ones for sale.

i like the g8's but most that are used ( which is what i need by the way not brand new haha ) are 6 cylinders. And I haven't had any luck finding any CTS-V's around my area down here (camden county), id rather have a cts over all of the above lol
and plus i have to sell my camaro first. whenever i get around to posting for sale ads online and what not

Haven't seen many ball joints fail, tie rod ends are common failures, the 5 spd autos are good but leak from the electrical connectors (mercedes transmission, it has always been a problem since they started using it way back when), 5.7 hemi motors don't really have issues. the rear diffs like to leak from pinion and axle seals. Look for frame damage on the engine cradle in the front underbody. People like to slam in to parking blocks. other than that they have a nice ride, I work on these cars almost everyday at the dealer and I would drive one.

Not to hijack this thread, but do you guys know a good place to find used G8 GTs? I really want one and I don't feel like waiting for GM to make a similar, new car in 2013.
As for the Chargers, I've only had experience with the 3.5L V6. One of my buddies has one and went low 14s with full exhaust, tune, gears and intake. He's had no problems so far and he's around 60k miles on a 2008.

i work on chargers almost everyday, the main probs i really see besides random issues is inner and outter tie rods, clock springs in the steering wheel breaking, and steering angle sensors, but they are very easy fixes, and the main thing keep up on the oil change on 5.7 hemi's cus i see sum guys go along time with out a oil change and the engine likes to sludge up and they spin rod bearings or start get a noisy valvetrain. but just maintain the car and it will be ok,
imo, i like the g8's better

I like the SRTs but those wheels look like too much for the car. That setup would not last long in NJ with our roads.
