Laptop Problems

anyone in here good with computers ? i know nothing about them and my laptop decided to neg itself. its a gateway laptop about 3 years old. i have a lot of stuff for work on it, also all my music and stuff id like to get it back to life is possible. i think its sometihng with the operating system ? i get the black screen with the options for starting windows so i hit start windows normally, brings me to a disk drive check, click to skip the disk drive check n it brings me to my log in screen, from there i enter my password and it loads for a good 30 seconds befor it says i cant get on. also there is like a tapping sound coming from inside the computer. on the boot menu it says there is no operating system found, also, my disk drive is messed up but im not shure why or how it happend. could the disk drive be the problem ?

This isn't a solution, more so my normal first-try-cop-out, but nonetheless, try resetting it to a date before you started experiencing problems. Taking it easy on the midget pr0n wouldn't kill you either.

Get a hard drive enclosure, put your old hd in it, plug it into your desktop. If it gets recognized go to a cmd prompt and run chkdsk /f on the drive letter. It will take a while but will fix file pointers and indexing. Once its done pull your important files to your desktop for backup and try the drive in your laptop again.

That's cool. However you should have picked up an external hard drive.

That game is wicked good.

External hard drives can still fail. You should buy server space.

Buy an external SSD, or a large flash drive if you are worried. You can eat a flash drive, **** it out, and it will still work.

Server space is great, except anything you upload is now on somebody else's server. You need a very good agreement to keep things private.

Then try this.

Sometimes it works to get your data off

SSDs give you a new issue though. If something does go wrong, you have practically zero chance of getting your data back. We lost more than a dozen SSDs in laptops last year at work (in less than 75 laptops). Obviously we had a piece of some sort of defect (I think Dell told us it was a controller issue), but you never know....
