New Toy

So the time came to get ride of some toys to upgrade. Out was the boat, atv and got rid of my old workhouse...'94 g9 yamaha gas golf cart. I built this little monster up over the years and it was an asset to house work, helping me get the house redone and whatnot, whether it be pulling 800lbs of mulch, plowing the driveway, hauling firewood etc. Outfitted w/buggies unlimited 4" lift, 20" atv tires, itp wheels, enclosure, bed etc but the time came to kill 2 birds w/1 stone..wanted an atv and but needed something useful around the crib. Surprising w/the a/t carlisle tires this thing plowed 10" of snow w/ease..lol

Off to its new home at a marina in central jersey......

New toy, 2011 rzr-s long arm...so far only mods are a cooter brown top, half windshield and rearview mirror...registered in pa since jersey frowns on atv's. Things a monster though...needed something nimble for jersey trails so couldn;t go can-am and the rhinos are just too tall and cumbersome..plus w/this being a leftover, i got it for a relative steal, less than what the dealer acquired it for w/tax out the door..had to jump on it........

after a little 'muddin'

Looks awesome! It just looks menacing! Where do you ride? I haven't taken my Kawie Prairie out in maybe two or three years, aside from snow plowing.

Awesome RZR.....I've been wanting one for awhile. Did the dealership you bought it from have any other leftovers? Which dealer?

I got mine from kosco h/d in Butler nj. There were no more left overs but i spoke w/this dealership in Lebanon nj...this walker evans edition leftover (great shock package non long arm) was 12.3k out the door including tax...this is the only other leftover i know of and i would have gone w/this one if i didn't find mine.

Thanks bud. I still can't decide between the 900 or the 800.....I'm not sold on the trailing arm idea for trail riding but they do have very impressive power. I rented a 800 rzr 4 eps in Mexico earlier in the year and I've hooked ever since. Good luck with it.

Have you looking into the legality of trail riding in NJ state parks with it? You mentioned PA registration, does that allow you to drive it on the street at all?

In NJ, there is no legal place to drive any unregistered/uninsured offroad vehicle besides private land with permission from the landowner. Since you can't register an ATV in NJ, I wonder how they deal with ATVs registered in other states.

They cannot impound an atv that is registered for riding in state land, but they may be able to impound it for other reasons...maybe if a cop (not ranger) stops them on a roadway and the driver blew a .08 or higher and is drunk?? its possible since they are a danger to themselves or others and not just trespassing. The funny thing about pa registration is that nj recognizes reciprocity of neighboring states' registration...in this case pa and also ny. I'm also getting a vt. plate being i go up there a lot too and vt. recog's pa registration, but they don't recog New Hampshire ones..lol. Its what the states work out w/each other.

For those that want more info, vt is separated into 10-12 counties..each county has roughly 3-5 atv clubs. They pool their $ together and pay land owners to ride on their land. They cannot ride on V.A.S.T trails though. To be able to ride in vt, one needs to join a club, get registration in vt or have it reg in a state that vt recognizes and buy a vt plate and club decal..then you can ride anywhere in vt...legally. You can even ride on the highway if it's over a certain amt of accumulation of snow from what i read.

I did get called back to Pa since they rejected my initial registration...i had it right that i was class II, but the licensing office put me down as a class 1. Class 1- 1000lbs or under and under 50" in width. Class 2- 1k or greater and over 50" in width. I went back and they gave me the correct plate for atv-2. I'm 1k but 58" w/the long arm. Certain state parks limit widths to 52" and narrower (i am assuming b/c guys would be taking their suzuki sami's there)...that limits me on riding in parks but pa has a host of private parks that will take anything.

Yup, you're right.

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/AllTerrain.htm

http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Vehicle/Snowmobiles.htm - "All terrain vehicles are prohibited in all New Jersey State Parks and Forests – no exceptions."

My above post was made with some assumptions in mind.....too much time dealing with state part / offroad issues from a Jeep point of view. I've pretty much always heard the rules told as "You have to be registered / insured / inspected to be able to ride the trails in NJ state parks, so you can't ride your dirtbike / atv there" and assumed that you couldn't register / insure ATVs otherwise they would be legal to ride in the parks. 99% of my ATV experience is just from cruising around on an old Bayou 220 at my grandparents farm.
