Speeding ticket :( need advice

Hey all, So I got a speeding ticket last month and I need some advice. I won't say town name (like it matters) I do have a great excuse as to why I was speeding.

When I bought my 94 Z28 the computer was jacked up with all wrong settings. Gear ratio was incorrect and transmission was replaced by owner prior to me. All work was done at Aamco new rear and trans, I was given the receipts. I thought I had it straightened it out car runs perfect BUT... as I learned speedometer was still wrong.

I got a ticket for 61 in a 45 zone and no I was not driving crazy I was cruising in the right lane with cars and trucks passing me on the left. SO court was postponed due to Hurricane Sandy and rescheduled for last week so I went hoping the 4 points can be reduced. I talked to prosecutor and explained the issue and that I had fixed it by reprogramming the computers gearing that I was told was a 3:73 but ended up being a 3:42 + tire height was 1.5" off in computer as well

The Prosecutor(who I happen to know ) told me that he will drop me down to 2 points today or I can come back next month to court again and if I show him proof receipt that a licensed mechanic or a shop had corrected the problem he would dismiss the ticket no Points at all

So here I am trying to figure out how I can get a receipt showing that the speedo was wrong and now it is fixed to bring to court. I only have 1 small issue. I never go to a shop I fix everything myself.

So does anyone know a mechanic or shop that can "Check" my Speedo calibration and write a receipt? I live in Somerset county but willing to drive anywhere + I get to meet a good person or shop for future referrence I am starting to get old

You maybe able to pay a tuner to say it was off. Print a screen of what it was and the tuner changed it to.

A shop will check it but most likely will not pre-date a receipt..they wouldn't want their name attached to anything if its fradulent....i've tried stuff like that in the past.. but never say never...

IMO, someone/a shop would be nuts to write you a receipt. I'm sure the prosecutor knew you were blowing a bit of smoke up his arse and that's why he asked you to get a receipt. Sounds like 2pts

put back to old computer setting, have a shop verify its off, then change setting in front of them and have them verify it again with the new setting. That way they can be honest with dates and times.

Oh bill. I don't think you will be able to get a shop to do that for you. You can try a couple of the tuners but I don't think they will. I would just try to pay off the points

Thanks for the comments all, I am not trying to be dishonest I would normally be happy with the 2 points because I was speeding knowingly or not. I would like to stick it to the cop who pulled me over cause I switched to the right lane to let cars pass me who were going much faster. I still don't believer I was going near that speed but what can I do, I am the smuck who has the nerve to drive a convertible Z28 with the top down

A ticket sucks but I would accept it if I felt I earned it. If ya can't tell I still am steamed over this. The prosecutor I worked with many many times to handle Real estate contracts I have known him for 10 years now great guy I had no idea he did this work. I know what he was getting at when he told me to get recipts so I followed his lead. Using Tunercat and the hypertech car tuner I picked up straightened out the speedo in a afternoon of measuring and math after I got the ticket (scouts honor) it was 9 mph off at 60mph it grows the faster the car is driven at slow speeds like 25 it was 1.5 mph off I used 2 borrowed hand held garmin and magellan GPS units and 2 different android apps on 2 phones to verify my speed is correct.

I am neurotic when it comes to cars never had a shop find out something I didn't know already or fix something better than I could have done. Guess I never found a good shop. I was hoping someone in here could point me in the direction of a lucky mechanic or shop who would have the easiest time to make a few dollars I will visit the shop around the corner come Monday if no one has another suggestion.

thanks again

you will probably find no shops that will falsify records for you to take to court, especially in this economy...no one wants to lose their business.

If he went to a shop and asked them to correct his speedo and gave them a tool to do so, I fail to see where there is anything illegal transpiring.

If he asked them to post date it is where I see an issue.

He's saying its a fix it ticket. Come back, show you had a professional correct the problem, and they drop the charges. Wtf happened to comprehension? The OP is just asking where he could take the car cause he is very particular about his cars and doesn't know of a place that can be trusted.

the way i see it is that he said he had it fixed and corrected already at court. he went to court and they said if you can show proof that it was fixed they'd let him off. most of the times when this happens, since he already said it was fixed, would leave me to believe that the prosecutor is looking for proof dated before he went to court...if he shows them a receipt with the proof AFTER he already said it was fixed, it would mean he wasnt truthful when he was in court already.

I guess it could be read either way, Bill should clear this up for us. If he's looking for someone to make a bill for a prior date then yeah, he's going to have trouble. I still think its a fix it ticket and he'll be ok.

easy guys its all good

I am not looking for someone to falsify anything I am by the book always if I am in the right or the wrong. As mentioned i was just looking for a good shop (meet, here is my car U check it out verify here is a couple dollars for your time) figured someone may have a friend that will get an easy couple bucks not for doing wrong just for verifying what I have already done. If court doesn't accept my receipt that is up to them. I was once a small business owner wouldn't ask someone to lose their livelihood over a couple dollars. I am cheap but not that cheap.

Yes I am very particular with my cars I was hoping to meet a good shop I can learn to trust I am getting old and lazy and only want to work on my Vette these days. The court only cares that it is fixed I had a stellar driving record compared to majority of people. I will head over to a local shop tomorrow to have someone look at it if I can get out of work earlier.
