Thanks man, I appreciate it. My roommate is looking at this car, the body has around 130k but the engine was rebuilt and supposedly has 70k on it with no documentation... Just curious if there's anything else. It has a lot of performance parts on it and looks to be in pretty good shape.

Thanks,

Ted

black on black, E46 4-door correct? xdrive. Looks like it went for 43k new

But as far as questionable work it had a dash board pulled and had the rear glass replaced. Otherwise I saw nothing outrageous as far as warranty history.

But there is a list of things that go wrong on these cars, whenever they come to the dealer we usually can find a few grand worth of work to be done.

The bottom end is usually whats pretty solid with it, strange that it needed a rebuild. The worst thing we come across with the motor in particular is when it over heats and blows a head gasket during torqueing the head back down it will pull out the threads, but is a BMW authorized repair to insert heili-coils (sp.)

Otherwise there are normal oil leaks from customers following the high oil change intervals, oil seperators freezing and causing no start conditions or leaking externally, window regulators are quite common. Rear springs are common to crack and break. Rarely has trans issues with the automatics or manuals

If he road test there are few things to look for a feel for. Sunroof clips break a lot and cause the shade to bind, quick cheap fix but easy to hide, if you jump on the brakes on and off while allowing it move about an inch or two you will feel a pulsating/thud like sensation which is the control arm bushings shot, a lot of time the seat heaters will turn on and shut off shortly after. I am sure I am missing a lot but any questions feel free to ask

Other then that I don't see anything else, no open recalls of any sorts.

What kind of performance parts are on it ?

Bring it to any dealer, a tech would love to go into and pick out all the gravy work that it needs before he buys it.

Definitely check those control arms, they are a pretty common repair.

Thanks for the info. Apparently the engine was replaced because a previous owner drove it with a broken serpentine belt and cooked it. It has the M package on it and upgraded suspension; coil overs, and something else with control arms I think he said.

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it. He had his mechanic go thru it as well and ended up getting it for just under $6k. Has all the suspension parts, wheels/tires, plus all the stock parts with wheels/tires
